MOCSA EXISTS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THOSE IMPACTED BY SEXUAL ABUSE AND ASSUALT AND TO PREVENT SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
ADVOCACY - MOCSA PROVIDES QUALITY CRISIS-LINE, ADVOCACY, AND VICTIM-OUTREACH SERVICES TO SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ABUSE AND ASSAULT AND THEIR SIGNIFICANT OTHERS. THESE SERVICES ARE ALWAYS FREE AND ASSIST VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES, WITH THEIR IMMEDIATE HEALTH AND SAFETY, EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, AND PARTICIPATION IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. MOCSA SERVED OVER 1,139 INDIVIDUALS IN 2021. OUR CRISIS LINE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ANSWERED 5,138 CRISIS LINE CALLS IN 2021. THAT IS 14 CALLS FOR HELP EVERY SINGLE DAY, ALL YEAR ROUND. AN IMPRESSIVE 99% OF CALLERS SAID THE CRISIS LINE SERVICE WAS HELPFUL TO THEM.
COUNSELING - MOCSA PROVIDES FREE EVIDENCE-BASED, TRAUMA INFORMED COUNSELING SERVICES, FOR BOTH ADULT AND CHILD VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE AND ASSAULT, AS WELL AS THEIR SIGNIFICANT OTHERS AND FAMILIES, SERVING 975 INDIVIDUALS IN 2021, THAT IS 19 NEW CLIENTS EACH WEEK. THESE SERVICES HELP VICTIMS IN THE SIX COUNTY KANSAS CITY METROPOLITAN REGION HEAL FROM THE TRAUMA OF SEXUAL ABUSE AND ASSAULT. THE MAJORITY OF ADULT SURVIVORS HAD A DECREASE IN TRAUMA SYMPTOMS SCORES BY THEIR FINAL COUNSELING SESSION.
EDUCATION AND PREVENTION - MOCSA OFFERS EDUCATION, PREVENTION PROGRAMS, TRAINING, AND OUTREACH EFFORTS TO YOUTH AND ADULTS IN THE SIX COUNTY KANSAS CITY METROPOLITAN REGION. THIS FREE PROGRAMMING IS DELIVERED IN SCHOOLS, PROFESSIONAL SETTINGS, BARS AND RESTAURANTS, CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY EVENTS. THESE ACTIVITIES, REACHING OVER 61,802 INDIVIDUALS IN 2021 ALONE, HELP RAISE AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE, AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON EACH OF OUR ROLES IN PREVENTING FUTURE INCIDENTS OF SEXUAL ABUSE AND ASSAULT. 98% OF STUDENTS REPORTED THAT THEY LEARNED AT LEAST ONE THING THEY CAN DO TO PREVENT OR REDUCE THE RISK OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE.
