THE INSTITUTE IS DEDICATED TO A SCHOLARLY STUDY OF SOUTHERN HISTORY. IT NORMALLY HOLDS 2 TO 3 SCHOLARS CONFERENCES AND/OR SUMMER SCHOOLS EACH YEAR. DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC THIS SCHEDULE WAS CURTAILED. RELEVANT ESSAYS ARE PUBLISHED REGULARLY ON THE INSTITUTE'S WEBSITE AND THE INSTITUTE PUBLISHES NEWSLETTERS.

SUMMER SCHOOL: SUMMER SCHOOL HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE INSTITUTE. STUDENTS COME FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY. THERE ARE SESSIONS LED BY SCHOLARS IN ADDITION TO DISCUSSION GROUPS. MOST SPEAKERS ARE THERE ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS AND RECEIVE ONLY ROOM AND BOARD. VOLUNTEERS HELP COORDINATE DURING THE WEEK. AUDIO AND VIDEO RECORDINGS ARE USUALLY MADE OF THE SESSIONS.
THE INSTITUTE'S WEBSITE: DURING 2021 THE INSTITUTE PUBLISHED ARTICLES, BOOK REVIEWS, PODCAST EPISODES AND LECTURES ON SOUTHERN CULTURE, HISTORY, ECONOMICS, PHILOSOPHY, LITERATURE, AND THE ARTS ON OUR FREE PUBLIC WEBSITE AND MOBILE APPLICATION. DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC THE INSTITUTE WAS UNABLE TO HOLD THE 1-3 SCHOLARS' CONFERENCES IT NORMALLY HOLDS AND BEGAN HOLDING ZOOM AND OTHER ONLINE CLASSES.
NEWSLETTER AND BOOK PUBLISHING NEWSLETTER THE INSTITUTE'S NEWSLETTER IS MAILED FOR FREE TO DONORS AND MEMBERS AND INCLUDES DESCRIPTIONS OF THE INSTITUTE'S CURRENT AND UPCOMING EVENTS. SELF-PUBLISHED BOOKS - THE INSTITUTE HAS FIVE BOOKS IN MANUSCRIPT FORM AT VARYING STAGES OF COMPLETION.
