SYLVIA'S CHILDREN - THE CLUB RAISED $12,899 FROM CONTRIBUTIONS FROM MEMBERS AND OTHER ROTARY CLUBS. THIS WAS MATCHED BY A DISTRICT 5960 CONTRIBUTION OF $11,880. A TOTAL OF $24,779 WAS RAISED. $26,405 WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION CALLED SYLVIA'S CHILDREN. ULTIMATELY THE FUNDS WERE USED TO BUILD A COMPUTER LAB IN THE MBIRIIZI PRIMARY AND DAY CARE SCHOOL IN MASAKA, UGANDA, AFRICA.THE CLUB MEMBERS ASSIST WITH THE DELIVERY OF MEALS FOR THE MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM RUN BY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 622. WE DELIVER APPROXIMATELY 10 MEALS PER WEEK, 100 MEALS PER YEAR. IN ADDITION, WE DONATED $7,000 TO MEALS ON WHEELS TO REPLACE THE FREEZER.THE CLUB GIVES THIRD GRADE STUDENTS IN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 622 AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT DICTIONARIES. WE DONATED 680 DICTIONARIES.WE DONATED $2,000 TO TWO LOCAL FOOD SHELVES.SCHOLARSHIPS OF $3,000 WERE AWARDED TO 5 COLLEGE STUDENTS.$5,000 WAS DONATED TO THE ROTARY INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION.THE CLUB DONATED $2,300 TO OTHER DISTRICT ROTARY CLUBS TO SUPPORT THEIR INTERNATIONAL GRANTS. THIS MONEY WAS PAID TO THE CLUBS AND NOT SENT TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES. CLUB MEMBERS DONATED TIME TO HELP VARIOUS COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS BELL RINGING FOR THE SALVATION ARMY, OAKDALE SUMMERFEST PARADE, SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND ROTARY DISTRICT 5960.
