THE MISSION OF NORTH STAR SCOUTING MEMORABILIA, INC., DBA NORTH STAR MUSEUM OF BOY SCOUTING AND GIRL SCOUTING IS TO "COLLECT, PRESERVE, SHARE, AND INTERPRET THE HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE OF BOY SCOUTING AND GIRL SCOUTING IN THE UPPER MIDWEST." IT COLLECTS MATERIAL RELATING TO BOY SCOUTING AND GIRL SCOUTING, EXHIBITS THESE MATERIALS, HOLDS PUBLIC EVENTS AT WHICH THESE COLLECTIONS TAKE CENTER STAGE, AND WORK WITH YOUTH AND ADULTS TO LEARN THE HISTORY OF SCOUTING IN THIS REGION.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE BULK OF OUR WORK FALLS UNDER THE CATEGORY OF COLLECTIONS CARE AND PRESERVATION, FROM DEALING WITH INCOMING COLLECTIONS, TO CARING FOR, CATALOGING, AND PROPERLY STORING THOSE OBJECTS THAT WE CHOOSE TO ACCEPT, TO MAKING THE COLLECTIONS AVAILABLE THROUGH EXHIBITION, RESEARCH, AND PUBLICATION. WE DEVOTE A FAIR AMOUNT OF TIME AND EXPENSE TO COLLECTIONS CARE PARTICULARLY. OVER THE YEARS, WE HAVE MOVED THE BACKLOG OF COLLECTIONS PROCESSING, AND FINALLY GOT TO THE POINT WHERE WE ARE ABLE TO ACCESSION AND CATALOG AN ITEM AS SOON AS THE BOARD ACCEPTS IT FOR THE COLLECTION. UNDER THE HEADING OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING, THE MUSEUM EITHER HOSTS OR GOES OUT TO MORE THAN 10 COMMUNITY/EDUCATIONAL EVENTS, INCLUDING MERIT BADGE WORKSHOPS FOR BOY SCOUTS, TOURS AND PROGRAMS FOR GIRL SCOUTS AND BOY SCOUTS PUBLIC EVENTS, CLASSES, TRAINING, MEETINGS, AND TRAVELING DISPLAYS. A GREAT DEAL OF STAFF AND VOLUNTEER TIME WENT INTO ALL OF THESE EVENTS, AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WERE SERVED, BOTH ON-SITE AND ELSEWHERE.
