FARM-TO-SCHOOL: REAP FOOD GROUP HAS BEEN PARTNERING WITH SOUTH-CENTRAL WISCONSIN SCHOOLS AND FARMERS TO SUPPLY LOCAL FOODS AND DEVELOP NUTRITION EDUCATION FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS, AND WITH FAMILY-OWNED FARMS, RESTAURANTS, AND INSTITUTIONS SINCE FORMING IN 1997. RECENT PROJECTS HAVE INCLUDE OUR ONGOING LOCAL SNACK PROGRAM IN MADISON SCHOOLS, CONTINUING TO PROVIDE NUTRITION EDUCATION VIA MATERIALS AND OUR UPROOT FOOD TRUCK, AND ADVOCATING FOR WISCONSIN STATE POLICY SUPPORTING SCHOOL MEALS.
REAP PROVIDES EDUCATION AND OUTREACH TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABLE FARMING AND THE VALUE OF A STRONG LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM IN OUR REGION. WE PROVIDE WAYS FOR MEMBERS TO BE INVOLVED IN ADVOCACY AND ORGANIZATION AROUND ISSUES RELATED TO FOOD ACCESS AND SUSTAINABLE FARMING.
FARM-TO-BUSINESS: REAP HAS CREATED A LOCAL WHOLESALE READINESS PROGRAM TO FACILITATE BUYING AND SELLING LOCAL, SUSTAINABLY-GROWN PRODUCE TO LOCAL INSTITUTIONAL BUYERS. TO SUPPORT THE TRANSITION TO WHOLESALE PRODUCTION, WE COMBINE EDUCATION AND WRAP-AROUND CONSULTATION, THUS INCREASING THE LIKELIHOOD THAT THE FARMER WILL SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION INTO GROWING PRODUCE TO SELL IN THE WHOLESALE MARKET.FARM FRESH ATLAS: SINCE 2002, REAP'S FARM FRESH ATLAS OF SOUTHERN WISCONSIN, AN ANNUAL PRINT AND ONLINE PUBLICATION, HAS CONNECTED CONSUMERS TO SUSTAINABLE FAMILY FARMS, FARMERS' MARKETS, GROCERS, AND RESTAURANTS SOUTHERN WISCONSIN. STARTING IN 2023, REAP IS TRANSITIONING THE ATLAS INTO A STATEWIDE PUBLICATION
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS: REAP IS WORKING IN THE COMMUNITY, STRENGTHENING AND AMPLIFYING COMMUNITY-LED SOLUTIONS TO FOOD SYSTEM CHALLENGES. WE PARTNER WITH PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE WORKING TO STRENGTHEN A GOOD FOOD SYSTEM. RECENT INITIATIVES HAVE INCLUDED A SUMMER EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AT CENTRO HISPANO, A NONPROFIT LATINO/A COMMUNITY CENTER AND TEENS IN THE FOOD SYSTEM, CREATING A YOUTH LEADERSHIP COHORT WHO COULD MENTOR YOUNGER CHILDREN IN THEIR SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BAYVIEW AND LUSSIER COMMUNITY CENTERS AND EDUCATORS IN MADISON METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT. REAP, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ROOTS4CHANGE, HAS CREATED THE FARMS2FAMILIES PROGRAM THAT PURCHASES LOCALLY-RAISED AND CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE FOOD FROM LOCAL FARMERS AND REDISTRIBUTES RESILIENCE BOXES TO LATINO FAMILIES.
