EPIDEMIOLOGY: ASSIST TRIBAL COMMUNITIES WITH EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THEIR HEALTH THROUGH EDUCATION AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN THE AREAS OF HIV, HEPATITIS, VACCINATIONS, AND OPIOID USE/ADDITION. THIS DEPARTMENT WORKS WITH 34 TRIBES ACROSS THE STATES OF WISCONSIN, MINNESOTA, AND MICHIGAN.
FAMILY HEALTH: ASSIST FAMILIES, WHO RESIDE ON OR WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THERE TRIBE, TO MAKE BETTER AND/OR HEALTHY LIFE CHOICES. THIS INCLUDES WAYS TO QUIT COMMERCIAL TOBACCO, PREVENTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, PROMOTING CHILD SAFETY, AND THE OVERALL HELP FOR THE FAMILY TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT.
AGING AND DISABILITY:- ASSIST TRIBAL MEMBERS WHO ARE 18 YEARS OF AGE AND OLD, WHO HAVE A PHYSICAL, MENTAL, OR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY, OBTAIN BENEFITS SUCH AS SSI, SSDI, MEDICAID, MEDICARE, FOOD SHARE, AND/OR VETERAN BENEFITS. IN 2020, THE DEPARTMENT SERVED APPROXIMATELY 300 PARTICIPANTS ACROSS ALL TRIBES IN WISCONSIN.- THIS DEPARTMENT ALSO RECRUITS TRIBAL ELDERS AS VOLUNTEERS TO ACT AS MENTORS OR COMPANIONS TO YOUTH AND OTHER ELDERS. AT THE END OF 2020, THERE WERE 37 VOLUNTEERS.
VOCATIONAL REHAB (EXPENSES: $1,244,146):- ASSIST TRIBAL MEMBERS WITH A DISABILITY, WHO RESIDE ON OR WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THERE TRIBE, GAIN EMPLOYMENT. EACH YEAR THE DEPARTMENT WORKS WITH AT LEAST 300 NATIVE AMERICANS.ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (EXPENSES: $370,614):- ASSIST TRIBAL MEMBERS WITH STARTING A SMALL BUSINESS BY HELPING THEY GAIN UNDERSTATING WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS. THIS CAN INCLUDE MAKING THE BUSINESS PROPOSAL AND/OR BUSINESS PLAN TO PRESENT TO PERSPECTIVE INVESTORS TO HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE BUSINESS FINANCIALS.- ALSO ASSIST IN UPDATING THE DATA FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY (CEDS) REPORT. DATA IS COLLECTED ON CURRENT AND FUTURE PROJECTS BY HAVING OUTREACH ACTIVITIES BASED ON THE TRIBE'S VISION, GOALS, AND OBJECTIVES.
