DEFEND OUR HEALTH WORKS TO CREATE A WORLD WHERE ALL PEOPLE ARE THRIVING, WITH EQUAL ACCESS TO SAFE FOOD AND DRINKING WATER, HEALTHY HOMES, AND PRODUCTS THAT ARE TOXIC-FREE AND CLIMATE-FRIENDLY. WE'LL STAND UP FOR THIS RIGHT WHEREVER IT IS THREATENED.

IN 2021, WE WORKED TO ADDRESS THE PFAS CONTAMINATION CRISIS IN MAINE, COLLABORATING WITH IMPACTED FARMERS AND WELL-USERS TO DEVELOP INNOVATIVE POLICY SOLUTIONS TO THE CLASS OF TOXIC, PERSISTENT CHEMICALS. WE CHAMPIONED POLICY THAT MADE MAINE A NATIONAL LEADER IN TURNING OFF THE TAP OF PFAS, ELIMINATING ITS USE BY 2030 IN PRODUCTS, EXCEPTING USES CRITICAL FOR HEALTH, SAFETY, OR FUNCTIONING OF SOCIETY. WE MOBILIZED CONCERNED CITIZENS, OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, AND SCIENTIFIC EXPERTS TO HELP SET NATIONALLY LEADING STANDARDS FOR PFAS IN DRINKING WATER, WHILE ALSO PROTECTING TENANTS ON WELL-WATER FROM ARSENIC AND REQUIRING TESTING OF OUR SCHOOLS' DRINKING-WATER FOR LEAD CONTAMINATION. OUR COMMUNITY ORGANIZING EFFORTS DIRECTLY PROVIDED 124 WELL-WATER TESTING KITS AND EDUCATED HUNDREDS MORE ABOUT THE NEED FOR WATER TESTING. NATIONALLY, WE WORKED TOWARDS ELIMINATING THE USE OF PHTHALATES IN FOOD CONTACT MATERIALS, CONVINCING MULTIPLE MAJOR BRANDS TO MOVE AWAY FROM JAR LIDS AND BOTTLE CAPS CONTAINING THE ENDOCRINE DISRUPTING CHEMICALS.
