TO PRESERVE, INTERPRET, AND SHARE THE HISTORY OF THE HARBOR SPRINGS AREA, WHILE ENCOURAGING CURIOSITY AND PROMOTING AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THE LESSONS OF THE PAST FOSTER AN INFORMED COMMUNITY.

Part 3 - Line 4a

OPERATE A HIGH-QUALITY LOCAL HISTORY MUSEUM WHICH INCLUDES PERMANENT EXHIBITS, HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES, CHANGING EXHIBITS, AND GRADE-LEVEL APPROPRIATE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. UTILIZE THE MUSEUM FACILITY TO PRESENT ADDITIONAL OUTSTANDING HISTORY-BASED PROGRAMMING INCLUDING MONTHLY LECTURE, ORAL HISTORY WORKSHOPS, AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES. LASTLY, MAINTAIN AND PRESERVE AN ARCHIVE OF PHOTOGRAPHS, DOCUMENTS, AND ARTIFACTS PERTAINING TO HARBOR SPRINGS HISTORY. THESE PROGRAMS WERE ACCOMPLISHED IN PART BY VOLUNTEER SERVICES.


THE ANDREW J. BLACKBIRD MUSEUM IS OWNED BY THE CITY OF HARBOR SPRINGS. ALL OF THE EXHIBITS AND ARTIFACTS HOUSED AT THE BLACKBIRD MUSEUM ARE OWNED BY THE CITY OF HARBOR SPRINGS. THE HARBOR SPRINGS AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY WAS HIRED BY THE CITY OF HARBOR SPRINGS TO STAFF THE MUSEUM SO THAT IT COULD REMAIN OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WHILE ALSO MANAGING THEIR COLLECTION OF NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIFACTS AND EXHIBITS.
