WORKFORCE RESILIENCE GRANTS FOR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT STAFF:SINCE MARCH 2020, LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT STAFF HAVE WORKED RELENTLESSLY TO RESPOND TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND TO PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE HEALTH OF RESIDENTS IN THE MIDST OF RAPIDLY CHANGING CIRCUMSTANCE. LONG HOURS AND STRESSFUL WORKING CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN THE NORM. IN ADDITION, THE POLITICAL VOLATILITY SURROUNDING THE PANDEMIC HAS RESULTED IN MANY PUBLIC HEALTH STAFF FEELING, THREATENED, HUMILIATED, AND DEVALUED FOR DOING THE VERY JOBS THEY WERE SELECTED TO DO.THIS PROGRAM SEEKS TO SUPPORTLOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS BY OFFERING FUNDING SO THEY CAN OFFER GROUP COUNSELING, TRAINING IN HANDLING THREATS AND DIFFICULT CUSTOMERS, PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID TRAINING, OR OTHER BRIEF EMPLOYEE SERVICE PROGRAM INTERVENTIONS NOT OTHERWISE AVAILABLE AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. EVENTS PLANNED BY LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT STAFF, AND SUPPORTED WITH THESE FUNDS, ALSO ALLOW FOR SOCIAL INTERACTION AND NETWORKING AMONG COWORKERS THAT HAS BEEN SORELY MISSED IN THIS TIME OF PRIMARILY REMOTE WORK.


LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR PUBLIC HEALTH MANAGERS (CJS): THIS PROGRAM OFFERS TRAINING FOR TWO GROUPS OF PUBLIC HEALTH STAFF. THE ESSENTIAL LEADERSHIP SKILLS SERIES PROVIDES FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH STAFF WHO HAVE RECENTLY ASSUMED A LEADERSHIP OR MANAGERIAL ROLE. TOPICS INCLUDE COMMUNICATION, ORGANIZATION, DELEGATION, HIRING, SUPERVISION, AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT. IN 2023, THE HEALTH OFFICER SERIES FOCUSED ON CREATING PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY FOR STAFF AND ON SUCCESSION PLANNING AND EFFECTIVE TRANSFER OF LEADERSHIP.


COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING FOR PUBLIC HEALTH STAFF (MDARD): THE PURPOSE OF THESE TRAININGS IS TO INCREASE COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS FOR KEY COUNTY AND STATE PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS AND GUIDE THEM TO MORE CONFIDENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE THEIR WORK TO THE PUBLIC THROUGH VARIOUS COMMUNICATION CHANNELS. EACH TRAINING PROVIDED TECHNIQUES FOR PROACTIVE AND REACTIVE COMMUNICATIONS AND INSTRUCTED PARTICIPANTS ON THE KEYS FOR NAVIGATING CRISES, TOUGH QUESTIONS, ANGRY CROWDS, INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS, AND MORE. PARTICIPANTS WERE OFFERED THE OPTION TO TRAIN INDIVIDUALLY TO PERFORM ON CAMERA, WHETHER IN A FORMAL TELEVISION NEWS INTERVIEW OR IN FRONT OF AN ACTIVIST WITH AN IPHONE.
