THE ANN ARBOR HANDS-ON MUSEUM CREATES INFORMAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH THE MUSEUM AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMMING FOR AREA SCHOOLS, SCOUTS, COMMUNITY GROUPS, AND CELEBRATIONS FOR AREA FAMILIES. THE MUSEUM IS LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN ANN ARBOR. THROUGH THE ONSITE AND OUTREACH PROGRAMMING, THE MUSEUM ENGAGED PEOPLE ACROSS 11 COUNTIES IN SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN, AS WELL AS NATIONWIDE AND SEVERAL COUNTIES THROUGH OUR DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM THIS PAST YEAR.
THE MUSEUM CONDUCTS PROGRAMS AND CLASSES ON- AND OFF-SITE, CREATING MOMENTS OF DISCOVERY THAT INSPIRE CURIOSITY, EXPLORATION, AND RESPECT FOR STEM AND THE NATURAL WORLD. THE PROGRAMS BRING SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS TO LIFE THROUGH HANDS-ON EXPERIMENTS. THESE PROGRAMS REACH PEOPLE THROUGHOUT MICHIGAN, NORTHERN OHIO, AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY THROUGH THE DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM.
THE MUSEUM HAS ITS OWN EXHIBITS TEAM WHICH BUILDS AND DESIGNS NEW EXHIBITS, AND ARE OFTEN INVOLVED IN SPECIAL PROJECTS. SOME OF THE EXHIBITS ARE FOR INTERNAL USE AND ARE FUNDED BY DONOR CONTRIBUTIONS, WHILE OTHER EXHIBITS AND PROJECTS ARE SOLD, RENTED OR LOANED TO OTHER MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES, VENUES, OR MUNICIPALITIES TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITY FOR LEARNING EXPERIENCES OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM.
THE ORGANIZATION BEGAN OPERATION OF THE LESLIE SCIENCE AND NATURE CENTER IN SEPTEMBER, 2021 WHICH OPERATES EDUCATIONAL AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS TO EDUCATE AND INSPIRE CHILDREN AND ADULTS TO DISCOVER, UNDERSTAND, AND RESPECT THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.
