A 43% INTEREST, JOINTLY HELD WITH ANOTHER 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION, IN A 135 ACRE WILDLIFE PRESERVATION AREA HAS BEEN DONATED TO THIS FOUNDATION FOR THE SPECIFIC EXEMPT PURPOSE TO ACT AS A WILDLIFE PRESERVATION AREA. THIS IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ONE OF THE STATED PURPOSES IN THE ARTICLES OF ORGANIZATION. THIS PROPERTY IS SURROUNDED ON THREE SIDES BY THE KASKASKIA RIVER. THERE ARE 2.5 MILES OF LEVEES TO KEEP THE WATER FROM THE RIVER FROM FLOODING TOO MUCH. THERE ARE ALSO TWO PUMPS, ONE 16 INCH, AND ONE EIGHT INCH, TO PUMP WATER FROM THE RIVER WHEN IT IS TOO DRY TO BE GOOD WATERFOWL HABITAT AND TO PUMP WATER FROM THE PROPERTY BACK INTO THE RIVER WHEN IT HAS BEEN FLOODED TOO MUCH. THIS KEEPS A BALANCE OF WATER NEEDED TO MAINTAIN GOOD WATERFOWL HABITAT. THE FLAT LAND ON THE SITE IS PLANTED WITH CORN TO FEED THE WATERFOWL AND DEER, ALONG WITH OTHER WILD ANIMALS. IN THE PAST YEAR 470 MAN HOURS AND 25 MACHINE HOURS HAVE BEEN DONATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF PLANTING CORN AND MAINTAINING LEVEES. IF THER
A COOPERATIVE EFFORT HAS BEEN ORGANIZED WITH TWO OTHER 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE INVOLVED IN EDUCATING PET OWNERS IN THE CARE OF THEIR PETS. OVER 10,000 INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PIECES WERE PRINTED AND SENT OUT IN THE PAST FISCAL YEAR ENDED 6/30/22. THESE INFORMATIONAL BLITZES WERE DONE IN COOPERATION WITH THE ST. LOUIS CITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, THE ST. LOUIS COUNTY HEALTH DAPARTMENT AND VARIOUS CITY AND COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL AGENCIES, AS WELL AS GREATER ST. LOUIS AREA BUSINESSES THAT DONATE.
