HOOGLAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS IS A VENUE THAT PROVIDES OFFICE, PERFORMANCE, REHEARSAL AND MEETING SPACE FOR OTHER ARTS AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS TO RENT AT REDUCED RATES. PART OF OUR MISSION IS TO ASSIST OTHER ARTS GROUPS TO MEET THEIR OBJECTIVES. WE HAVE ALSO BECOME A CULTURAL HUB IN THE CITY OF SPRINGFIELD, WHERE DIFFERENT GROUPS ARE ABLE TO PRESENT DIVERSE EVENTS THAT ENRICH THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. THE HOOGLAND HAS ALSO HOSTED EVENTS THAT HAVE FEATURED IMPORTANT SPEAKERS, INCLUDING GOVERNOR J.B. PRITZKER, DORIS KEARNS GOODWIN AND PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA.
THE HOOGLAND EDUCATION PROGRAM WAS FOUNDED IN 2012 WITH THE GOAL OF FILLING A NEED FOR ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. THE EDUCATION PROGRAM FEATURES A TEAM OF OVER 20 TEACHERS WITH EDUCATION DEGREES AND AN EXPERTISE IN THE PERFORMING ARTS. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES CHILDREN FROM 1ST THROUGH 12TH GRADES WITH CLASSES EACH WEEK THAT FOCUS ON DIFFERENT PERFORMING ARTS SKILLS. OVER 160 YOUNG PEOPLE PARTICIPATE IN HOOGLAND JUNIORS, KIDS AND TEENS, AND AN ADDITIOANL 100 STUDENTS TAKE WEEK DAY CLASSES. THE PROGRAM CURRENTLY PRESENT 4 SHOWS EACH YEAR, WITH ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY PERFORMANCES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
