PROVIDING INDIVIUDAL AND FAMILY SOCIAL SERVICE AND APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH, YOUNG ADULTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES IN DECATUR, IL.

Part 3 - Line 4a

YOUTH TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS: YOUTH PROGRAMS AT HHC INCLUDE 1) AFTER-SCHOOL/SUMMER PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE, TUTORING, LIFE SKILLS INSTRUCTION, MENTORING, RECREATION, AND MEALS TO YOUTH AGES 6-17, AND 2) A YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR AGES 16-24 THAT PROVIDES CAREER-FOCUSED TRAINING AND SUBSIDIZED EMPLOYMENT AT WORKSITES THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.


A RE-ENTRY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOCUSED PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS, AGES 16-59, WHO ARE 1)RETURNING CITIZENS TRANSITIONING BACK INTO DECATUR, ILLIOIS FROM THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMEN OF JUVENILE JUSTICE; 2) FORMERLY-INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS RESIDING IN DECATUR THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY IN OBTAINING LIVING-WAGE EMPLOYMENT AND/OR STABLE HOUSING FOLLOWING INCARCERATION; AND 3) FAMILY MEMBERS AND CAREGIRVERS OF CURRENTLY INCARCERATED INDIVIUDALS WHO RESIDE IN LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS TO WHICH INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS WILL BE RETURNING UPON RELEASE AND NEED TO IMPROVE THE INCOME, LIFE SKILLS AND FINANCIAL LITERACY TRAINING, AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS ENROLLED IN THIS PROGRAM.


YOUTHBUILD: YOUTHBUILD IS A COMMUNITY-BASED ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR YOUTH BETWEEN AGES 16 AND 24 THAT BALANCES IN-SCHOOL LEARNING AND OCCUPATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING THAT PREPARE AT-RISK YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS FOR CAREER PLACEMENTS WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON TRAINING TO ENTER CONSTRUCTION AND BUILDING TRADE OCCUPATIONS AND/OR POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION.


PRE-APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING AND REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP: PARTICIPANTS IN HHCS SIX-MONTH PRE-APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM ARE PLACED INTO HANDS-ON INSTRUCTION WITH ONE OF FOUR BUILDING TRADES WHILE IMPROVING THEIR ACADEMIC SKILLS IN THE CLASSROOM TO QUALIFY FOR ENTRANCE INTO REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS. THE REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM PROVIDES CONTINUED RELATED TRAINING INSTRUCTION AND FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS IN BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OCCUPATIONS.
