AN ANTIBODY THERAPY, SOTROVIMAB, THAT HELPS NEUTRALIZE SARS COV-2 STRAINS, AND OTHER CORONAVIRUSES, WAS DEVELOPED WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM STRUCTURAL BIOLOGIST DR. JAY NIX. DR. NIX, BEAMLINE DIRECROR OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY CONSORTIUM PERFORMED X-RAY CRYSTALLOGRAPHY ON SAMPLES OF SURVIVOR-DERIVED ANTIBODIES. HIS WORK, ALONGSIDE OTHER CRYSTALLOGRAPHY AND MICROSCOPY FINDINGS, HELPED GENERATE DETAILED STRUCTURAL MAPS OF HOW THESE ANTIBODIES BIND TO THE SARS-COV-2 SPIKE PROTEIN. GLAXOSMITHKLINE AND VIR BIOTECHNOLOGY WERE ABLE TO USE THESE STRUCTURAL MAPS TO DEVELOP SOTROVIMAB.
