THE FOUNDATION OPERATES TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR SENIORS.

THROUGHOUT 2021, THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED WITH ITS SUPPORT OF THE FRAN RANDALL MEMORIAL CONCERTS SERIES, THE LEVY LECTURE SERIES, THE JAMMIN JEAN CONCERTS SERIES, AND OTHER SENIOR-CENTERED PROGRAMS. THESE WERE ALL MOVED TO A VIRTUAL SETTING DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.THE PRESENTATION OF REGULAR ZOOM BINGO AND ZOOM YOGA CLASSES HELPED EASE THE MONOTONY OF THE STAY-AT-HOME ORDER, ALLOWING FOR PERSONAL INTERACTION AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE AND EXERCISE.
THE FOUNDATION FUNDED THE CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION OF 4 ELEVATED VEGETABLE GARDENS ONE OF WHICH WAS BUILT TO ADA STANDARDS SO THAT WHEEL CHAIR BOUND MEMBERS COULD ACCESS AND WORK IN THE GARDENS. VOLUNTEERS HANDLED WATERING OF THE GARDENS THROUGHOUT THE GROWING SEASON. PRODUCE HARVESTED FROM THE GARDENS WAS DONATED TO SENIORS IN THE COMMUNITY.
THE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN RAISING FUNDS OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS IN ANTICIPATION OF RENOVATING THE LINDEN ROOM. DURING THIS PANDEMIC YEAR OF 2021 THE LEVY SENIOR CENTER FOUNDATION AND THE CITY OF EVANSTON AGREED BY SIGNING A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING THAT THE CITY WOULD START AND COMPLETE RENOVATION OF THE LINDEN ROOM AND THE ROOM WOULD BE RENAMED BOBBY'S ROOM IN MEMORY OF BOBBY LONDON. THE CITY WAS THE CONTRACTOR ON THE PROJECT AND THE FOUNDATION WILL PAY THE CITY ONCE WE ARE BILLED FOR THE RENOVATION. THE RENOVATIONS INVOLVED, DEMOLITION OF THE ROOM AND FLOOR, INSTALLATION OF A NEW FLOOR SUITABLE FOR EXERCISE CLASSES, INSTALLATION OF A NEW ELECTRONIC MOVABLE WALL WHICH ALLOWS FOR DIVISION INTO 2 ROOMS, INSTALLATION OF NEW CABINETRY, INSTALLATION OF MODERN AUDIO AND VISUAL EQUIPMENT TO ALLOW FOR SIMULTANEOUS IN PERSON AND VIRTUAL CLASSES FOR SENIORS, INSTALLATION OF AN AUDIO SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS FOR BETTER HEARING IN PERSON FOR THOSE WITH HEARING LOSS. BOBBY'S ROOM WAS DEDICATED IN SEPTEMBER 2020. TO DATE, THE FOUNDATION HAS NOT BEEN BILLED FOR THE RENOVATION WHICH EXCEEDS $300,000.
