Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TO IMPROVE RADIOLOGICAL SERVICES AND RELATED MEDICAL CARE IN EAST AFRICA, WITH THE ULTIMATE VISION OF ENABLING LOCAL TANZANIANS TO PROVIDE SELF-SUSTAINING HIGH QUALITY RADIOLOGY SERVICES TO EVERYONE IN TANZANIA. PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS OF THIS MISSION ARE: (1) SUPPORTING THE RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT AND RELATED DEPARTMENTS AT THE KILIMANJARO CHRISTIAN MEDICAL CENTER IN MOSHI, TANZANIA, (2) PROVIDING RADIOLOGY EQUIPMENT FOR THE RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT AND OUTLYING TANZANIAN MEDICAL FACILITIES, AND (3) SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL OF RADIOLOGY LOCATED AT KCMC.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
FOLLOWING YEARS IN WHICH EAMAF HAS FUNDED A NUMBER OF MAJOR EQUIPMENT PURCHASES FOR KCMC AND REMOTE MEDICAL FACILITIES, REDUCED DONATIONS HAVE LIMITED ITS PROGRAMS. HOWEVER, EAMAF CONTINUES TO PROVIDE SALARY SUPPLEMENTS FOR KCMC'S STAFF RADIOLOGISTS AND TO MAKE MINOR EQUIPMENT PURCHASES. IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT TWO STAFF RADIOLOGISTS WILL BE ADDED IN 2023, REMEDYING A STAFF SHORTAGE BUT CREATING A BUDGET CHALLENGE. EAMAF IS CONTINUING ITS COLLABORATION WITH KCMC IN THE FINANCING AND DEVELOPMENT OF A MAJOR CARDIOVASCULAR CENTER AT KCMC (THE CENTER). WHEN COMPLETED AND EQUIPPED IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS THE CENTER IS EXPECTED TO SIGNIFICANTLY EXPAND THE ROLE OF THE KCMC RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT AND ITS INTERACTION WITH OTHER KCMC DEPARTMENTS. IT IS ALSO LIKELY TO RESULT IN A NEED FOR ADDITIONAL KCMC RADIOLOGISTS AND RELATED STAFF AND EQUIPMENT. GIVEN THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CENTER, SEVERAL OF EAMAF'S DIRECTORS HAVE, WITH EAMAF'S SUPPORT, FORMED A SEPARATE NONPROFIT CORPORATION TO COLLABORATE WITH EAMAF AND UNDERTAKE A MORE FOCUSED ROLE IN THE CENTER'S FINANCING AND DEVELOPMENT. EAMAF IS CURRENTLY ACTING AS A RECIPIENT FOR DONATIONS TO THE CENTER UNTIL THE NEW ENTITY'S TAX EXEMPT STATUS IS GRANTED. MAJOR FUNDING FOR THE CENTER IS ANTICIPATED TO COME FROM THIRD PARTY SOURCES.
EAMAF PROVIDES MONETARY SUPPORT IN THE FORM OF SALARY SUPPLEMENTS FOR THREE STAFF RADIOLOGISTS. ALL FOUR PROVIDE PATIENT SERVICES, WHILE ONE ALSO ACTS AS RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT CHAIR AND ANOTHER AS CHAIR OF THE SCHOOL OF RADIOLOGY.
EAMAF IS CONTINUING ITS EFFORTS TO COLLABORATE WITH EDUCATIONAL AND PRIVATE MEDICAL ORGANIZATIONS TO SPONSOR VOLUNTEERS AT KCMC, BUT NO FUNDING PROGRAMS HAVE YET BEEN FINALIZED.
