THE ADMIRAL AT THE LAKE (THE ADMIRAL) IS A NON-PROFIT CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY, OR LIFE PLAN COMMUNITY, IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS CONSISTING OF 196 INDEPENDENT LIVING APARTMENTS, 39 ASSISTED LIVING SUITES, 17 MEMORY CARE UNITS, AND 36 PRIVATE SKILLED NURSING BEDS. CONSTRUCTION OF THIS NEW BUILDING WAS SUBSTANTIALLY COMPLETED IN 2012. DURING 2021, THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC, COVID-19, CONTINUED TO HAVE A FINANCIAL IMPACT ON THE ADMIRAL. THE MOST PROFOUND FINANCIAL IMPACT OF COVID-19 WAS A DELAY IN EXISTING RESIDENTS MOVING INTO ASSISTED LIVING AND HEALTHCARE DUE TO THE STRINGENT GUIDANCE REGARDING VISITATION. APPROXIMATELY $246,000 OF FUNDING WAS RECEIVED THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (HHS) IN 2021. THESE STIMULUS FUNDS WERE USED TO COMBAT THE HIGHER COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH COVID-19, PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, HERO PAY, STAFFING, ETC. AS WELL AS OFFSET LOST REVENUES AS A RESULT OF COVID-19. MANAGEMENT HAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AS MUCH AVAILABLE FUNDING THROUGH FEDERAL STIMULUS REGULATIONS AS POSSIBLE.ON DECEMBER 31, 2021, THERE WERE 186 INDEPENDENT LIVING UNITS OCCUPIED FOR 94.9% OCCUPANCY. IN 2021, THE ADMIRAL FULFILLED ITS MISSION AND CHARITABLE PURPOSE BY PROVIDING CARE AND SERVICES TO OVER 450 RESIDENTS AGES OF 62 OR BETTER THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE ADMIRAL OFFERS A COMPREHENSIVE FITNESS AND WELLNESS PROGRAM THAT INCLUDES A FITNESS CENTER, INDOOR HEATED POOL, AND 27 FITNESS CLASSES PER WEEK WITH ADDITIONAL ONE ON ONE TRAINING PROGRAMS WITH THE FITNESS COORDINATOR.THERE IS A DIETICIAN WHO PROVIDES COUNSELING ON RESIDENT MEALS AND DIETS. A MYRIAD OF SOCIAL AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL RESIDENTS, INCLUDING A CREATIVE ARTS STUDIO, GARDEN TERRACES, LIBRARY, MEDIA ROOM/THEATER, AND LOUNGE AMONG OTHERS.RESIDENTS ENTERING INTO THE INDEPENDENT LIVING APARTMENTS IN THE NEW LIFE PLAN COMMUNITY SIGN LIFE CARE RESIDENCY AGREEMENTS THAT CARRY THE PROMISE THAT THEIR CONTRACT WILL NOT BE TERMINATED FOR INSUFFICIENT FUNDS IN THE EVENT THE RESIDENT OUTLIVES THEIR ASSETS OR INCOME. IN 2021, THE ADMIRAL PROVIDED $189,293 IN DIRECT SUBSIDY AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR ROOM AND BOARD, MEDICAL EXPENSES, AND STIPENDS. FURTHER, THE ADMIRAL PLEDGED TO PAY CERTAIN MEDICAL AND OTHER COSTS FOR CERTAIN RESIDENTS WHO HELD CERTAIN CONTRACTS.THE ADMIRAL, OPERATIONS, STAFF AND RESIDENTS PROVIDE AN ARRAY OF BENEFITS TO THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOOD AND COMMUNITY. INCLUDED IS A DESCRIPTION OF A FEW OF THOSE BENEFITS PROVIDED. THE ADMIRAL HOSTED LUNCHEONS FOR APPROXIMATELY 75 3RD GRADE CHILDREN AND TEACHERS FROM GOUDY SCHOOL WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE UPTOWN/EDGEWATER NEIGHBORHOOD. THE ADMIRAL ADDITIONALLY WORKS WITH ST. IGNATIUS PREP PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH IT TUTORING BUT TO AND FROM THE RESIDENTS. THE ADMIRAL PROVIDES SPACE FOR A LOCAL WOMEN'S BOOK GROUP THAT MEETS ON A MONTHLY BASIS. THE ADMIRAL PROVIDED SPACE FOR POLLING FOR THE CHICAGO BOARD OF ELECTIONS. THE ADMIRAL RESIDENTS AND STAFF ALSO PROVIDED THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF VOLUNTEER WORK TO THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY, INCLUDING READING TO THE GOUDY SCHOOL GRADE SCHOOL CHILDREN. AN ADMIRAL STAFF MEMBER PARTICIPATED IN A HIGH SCHOOL MENTORING PROGRAM AT THE NORTH LAWNDALE HIGH SCHOOL. THE ADMIRAL PARTICIPATED IN THE WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S AND RAISED MONEY FOR THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION. THE ADMIRAL PROVIDES SNOW REMOVAL OF THE COMMUNAL ALLEY BEHIND OUR BUILDING AS WELL AS ALL THE SIDEWALKS SURROUNDING OUR BUILDING TO THE BENEFIT OF OUR NEIGHBORS. THE ADMIRAL ORGANIZING A MONTHLY DONATION COLLECTION WHICH SUPPORTS BOTH ITS OWN RESIDENTS AND LOCAL OUTSIDE COMMUNITY. A WINTER WEAR DRIVE RESULTED IN OVER 200 WINTER CLOTHING ITEMS DONATED TO CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY OUTREACH, A LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. THE ADMIRAL CONTINUED ITS 'TRASH TO TREASURE', A MONTHLY OPPORTUNITY FOR STAFF TO DONATE UNNEEDED ITEMS TO ONE ANOTHER AND TO CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY OUTREACH. THE ADMIRAL ORGANIZED AN EMPLOYEE TRIP TO THE LAKEVIEW FOOD PANTRY TO VOLUNTEER IN ASSISTING PREPARING DONATED ITEMS FOR THE NEEDY.
