TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE FREEDOM OF RESIDENCE IN THE GREATER AKRON REGION SO THAT ALL PERSONS, REGARDLESS OF RACE, RELIGION, NATIONAL ORIGIN, SEX, FAMILY STATUS, OR HANDICAP, CAN SECURE THE HOUSING THEY WANT AND CAN AFFORD IN A NEIGHBORHOOD OF THEIR CHOICE. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH, HOUSING ASSISTANCE AND COUNSELING, COMMUNITY EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH.

TENANT AND LANDLORD PROGRAM ASSISTS TENANTS AND LANDLORDS IN UNDERSTANDING THEIR RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILTIES UNDER OHIO LAW. TENANTS WHO ARE AWARE OF THE PROPER MEANS OF ADDRESSING CONCERNS DURING THEIR TENANCY CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS.
FAIR HOUSING ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM WORKS TO ELIMNINATE DISCRIMINATORY HOUSING PRACTICES AND IS DESIGNED TO ENSUE GREATER COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL FAIR HOUSING LAWS. FHCS PROVIDES ASSISTANCE IN FILING DISCRIMINATION COMPLAINTS AS WELL AS PROVIDING SUPPORT COUNSELING, DISCRIMINATION INVESTIGATIONS, AND ATTORNEY REFERRALS TO ANYONE WHO FALLS UNDER PROTECTION OF TITLE VIII OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1968 WITH THE FAIR HOUSING AMENDMENTS ACT OF 1988, BETTER KNOWN AS THE FAIR HOUSING ACT.
HOUSING COUNSELING PROGRAM PROVIDES PRE-PURCHASE HOMEBUYER EDUCATION AND ASSISTANCE TO HOMEOWNERS THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THEIR HOMEOWNERSHIP WITH THE PROVISION OF REFINANCE COUSELING, REVERSE MORTGAGE COUNSELING, OR FORECLOSURE PREVENTION COUNSELING AND ASSISTANCE IF NEEDED. IF CONSUMERS OBTAIN PRE-PURCHASE HOUSING COUNSELING THROUGH OUR AGENCY, OUR COUNSELOR CAN ASSIST THEM IN COMPLETING A BUDGET AND ANTICIPATING MANY OF THE COMMON EXPENSES OF HOMEOWNERSHIP. THIS SERVICE EDUCATES PROSPECTIVE HOMEBUYERS ON HOUSING AFFORDABILITY AND PROVIDES THEM WITH AN IDEA OF WHAT PRICE RANGE AND MONTHLY PAYMENT AMOUNT THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO AFFORD.
