Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE TOLEDO ALLIANCE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS EXISTS TO SUSTAIN A WORKING COMMUNITY OF PERFORMING ARTISTS IN OUR AREA WHO PERPETUATE THE EXPERIENCE OF SUPERB MUSICAL AND DANCE PERFORMANCES AND EDUCATION FOR ALL PEOPLE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE 2020-2021 SEASON TESTED THE TALENTS AND RESOLVE OF TAPA. WE BOLDLY MOVED TOWARD PRESENTING A FULL SEASON OF PERFORMANCES IN A TIME THAT FEW SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS OR BALLET COMPANIES DID SO. AS THE COVID PANDEMIC WROUGHT HAVOC UPON THE PERFORMING ARTS, AND STATE AND LOCAL PROTOCOLS MADE IT CHALLENGING TO PRESENT LIVE PERFORMANCES, TAPA LEANED INTO THE WIND AND FOUND A WAY TO CREATE A SENSE OF NORMALCY IN UNCERTAIN TIMES. THE TOLEDO SYMPHONY RETURNED TO THE STAGE IN SEPTEMBER 2020, ONE OF JUST 24 ORCHESTRAS IN THE COUNTRY TO PRESENT A FULL SEASON OF ORCHESTRAL PERFORMANCES. IN DECEMBER 2020, THE TOLEDO BALLET WAS THE ONLY BALLET COMPANY OUT OF 160 IN THE USA TO PRESENT THE NUTCRACKER. WE INNOVATED BOLDLY, CREATING A LIVESTREAMING PLATFORM, CALLED TAPA STREAMING, THAT SENT OUR PERFORMANCES TO 47 U.S. STATES AND 36 COUNTRIES AROUND THE GLOBE. WE SHARED THE PERFORMING ARTS AT A TIME WHEN OTHERS COULD NOT OR WOULD NOT, AND WE SENT A MESSAGE OF HEALING AND PERSPECTIVE TO A GLOBAL AUDIENCE. WE PROVED THAT WE ARE AN ORGANIZATION THAT WOULD SUPPORT OUR VISION TO BRING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER THROUGH THE PERFORMING ARTS. WE KEPT THE MUSIC PLAYING, KEPT DANCERS DANCING, AND CREATED AN ENVIRONMENT THAT CELEBRATED THE ARTS AT A TIME WHEN THE WORLD NEEDED US THE MOST. WE ALSO LEARNED THROUGH THIS SEASON THE VALUE OF MAKING MUSIC AND CREATING DANCE WHEN THE REST OF THE WORLD WAS SILENT AND STILL. THIS WAS AN IMPORTANT LESSON IN THE CRITICAL WORK THAT WE DO TO CELEBRATE THE HUMAN SPIRIT AND ADVANCE BEAUTY ACROSS OUR COMMUNITY.
