THE TOLEDO ALLIANCE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS EXISTS TO SUSTAIN A WORKING COMMUNITY OF PERFORMING ARTISTS IN OUR AREA WHO PERPETUATE THE EXPERIENCE OF SUPERB MUSICAL AND DANCE PERFORMANCES AND EDUCATION FOR ALL PEOPLE.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE 2021-2022 SEASON SERVED AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN COVID TIMES AND A RETURN TO NORMAL FOR THE TOLEDO ALLIANCE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS. THE TOLEDO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA STARTED ITS SEASON WITH A PERFORMANCE OF ELGAR'S ENIGMA VARIATIONS, SUPPORTED BY PHOTOS OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND HOW THEY WERE AFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. TOLEDO BALLET CONTINUED ITS TRADITION OF HAVING THE LONGEST-RUNNING, ANNUAL PRODUCTION OF THE NUTCRACKER. ACROSS FIVE PERFORMANCES, TOLEDO BALLET RECORDED ITS SECOND HIGHEST NUTCRACKER REVENUES IN HISTORY. TO WORK WITH COVID-19 GUIDELINES FOR VOCAL PERFORMANCE, A CHAMBER CHOIR OF 16 LOCAL SINGERS WAS FORMED TO PRESENT A SOLD-OUT PERFORMANCE OF HANDEL'S MESSIAH ALONGSIDE THE TOLEDO SYMPHONY. CANADIAN BRASS WAS A FEATURED GUEST THIS SEASON, NOT ONLY PLAYING WITH THE SYMPHONY, BUT ALSO DOING A MASTER CLASS WITH STUDENTS FROM TOLEDO SYMPHONY SCHOOL OF MUSIC. THE END OF THE SEASON SAW A SOLD-OUT PERFORMANCE WITH BROADWAY LEGEND BERNADETTE PETERS. THE END OF THE 2021-2022 SEASON MARKED THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW THAT TAPA FINISHED THE YEAR WITH A SURPLUS. THROUGHOUT THIS SEASON, THE PANDEMIC'S EFFECTS CONTINUED TO IMPACT OUR MUSICIANS, DANCERS, AND AUDIENCES. MASKS WERE REQUIRED FOR MUSICIANS AND WERE OFTEN REQUIRED FOR AUDIENCES BASED ON CDC LEVELS, AND MANY VENUES ENACTED CAPACITY LIMITATIONS. OVERALL, HOWEVER, THIS WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASON, WHICH PROVIDED MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH THROUGH UNEXPECTED AND UNPRECEDENTED TIMES.
