Part 3
CMHI MEMBERS (PARK OWNERS & RETAILERS) HAVE BEEN EXPLORING OPPORTUNITIES TO ASSIST VETERANS WITH HOUSING ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE CMHI FOUNDATION IN PARKS AND COMMUNITIES THEY OWN OR MANAGE. IN ADDITION TO POTENTIALLY PROVIDING A MANUFACTURED HOME, DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE MAY BE PROVIDED IF THE "HELPING HANDS" CRITERIA ARE MET. VISITS TO A NON-PROFIT CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION WITH LOCATIONS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WERE CONDUCTED. THE ORGANIZATION MAKES SERVICES AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY TO HOMELESS VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES THAT INCLUDE HOUSING, EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION, VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND HEALTH CARE. IT MAY BE POSSIBLE FOR CMHI FOUNDATION TO ASSIST IN PROVIDING SOME TYPE OF HOUSING ASSISTANCE WHEN IT IS DETERMINED PRECISELY WHAT THOSE NEEDS ARE. THE FOUNDATION HAS PARTICIPATED IN AND CONTRIBUTED TO RELIEF EFFORTS FOR THE VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA IN 2005. THROUGH A CMHI MEMBER RETAILER IN BLOOMINGTON, CALIFORNIA, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED ASSISTANCE FOR REPLACEMENT OF A HOME TO A HOMEOWNER WHO LOST THEIR MOBILEHOME TO A FIRE IN 2006. IN 2007, THE FOUNDATION PAID OFF THE MORTGAGE AND ASSISTED IN THE RETRO-FITTING OF A MANUFACTURED HOME OWNED BY A SEVERELY INJURED ARMY SPECIALIST WHO WAS WOUNDED IN IRAQ.
