Part 3 - Line 4a
MISSIONARY OUTREACH PROGRAM: PROJECT GULU-FAMILY CARE, UGANDA: UGANDA SUFFERED ONE OF THE LONGEST LOCKDOWNS IN THE WORLD83 WEEKS AND SCHOOLS WERE REQUIRED TO BE CLOSED THROUGHOUT 2021. THE LOCKDOWN REQUIRED A HUGE AMOUNT OF WORK FROM THE FCU TEACHERS, COMPILING AND PRINTING SELF-STUDY PACKS, FOLLOWED UP BY PHONE CALLS FROM THE TEACHER AND VILLAGE VISITS, INCLUDING VISITS BY TEACHERS TO THE REFUGEE CAMP AND EVEN UP TO THE DISTANT IK MOUNTAINS. STUDENTS LIVING NEARBY WERE ALSO ABLE TO VISIT FOR CLASSES IN PERSON. DURING THE LOCKDOWN THE FCU TEAM PROVIDED ENGLISH CLASSES AS SOME OF THE SOUTH SUDANESE STUDENTS COME FROM RURAL AREAS THAT WERE REALLY IMPACTED BY WAR AND THEYD HARDLY HEARD A WORD OF ENGLISH WHEN THEY CAME TO FCU. WHEN SCHOOL FINALLY RE-OPENED, THE FCU SCHOOL HAD TO BE RESTOCKED WITH EXTRA MATERIALS LIKE NEW MATTRESSES, STATIONERY SUPPLIES, HUNDREDS OF BOOKS, AND PERSONAL SUPPLIES. THE OLDER STUDENTS WERE ALSO ABLE TO RETURN TO UNIVERSITY, SPECIAL COLLEGES AND SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOLS. THE YOUNG ONES, WHO ARE SOUTH SUDANESE FROM THE REFUGEE CAMP AND THOSE FROM THE EXTREMELY REMOTE IK TRIBE, NEEDED ALL THEIR BASIC SUPPLIES, FROM A NEW MATTRESS, SHEETS, AND ALL THE SANITARY ITEMS, THROUGH TO SCHOLASTIC AND LIVING REQUIREMENTS. ALSO IN 2021, A NUMBER OF THE FCU GRADUATES WHO ARE PURSUING HIGHER EDUCATION IN MEDICAL, BUSINESS AND OTHER FIELDS, DECIDED TO FORM AN ASSOCIATION AND MEET REGULARLY AND WILL BE MENTORING THE YOUNGER STUDENTS. LOCAL PROJECTS, MEXICO: DURING THE PANDEMIC MANY LOW INCOME FAMILIES SUFFERED GREATLY, MANY LOSING THEIR JOBS, AND HAVING DIFFICULTY FEEDING THEIR FAMILIES. WE DECIDED TO SET UP AN EMERGENCY FOOD PANTY TO HELP PROVIDE FOR SPECIFIC NEEDY SITUATIONS. VOLUNTEERS FROM ACTIVATED MINISTRIES PARTNERED AGAIN WITH THE LOCAL BOARD OF EDUCATION AND TEACHERS TO VISIT STUDENTS IN LOW-INCOME AREAS TO HELP PROVIDE SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR THEIR USE WHILE DOING REMOTE SCHOOLING. WE HAD A SECOND GIVEAWAY AT CHRISTMAS FOR GIFTS, FOOD, WARM HATS, SCARVES AND SOCKS.
ONLINE, TELEPHONE AND MAIL OUTREACH PROGRAMS: CONTINUED ONLINE DEVOTIONAL AND MONTHLY MAILINGS. IN 2021, OUR MONTHLY MAILINGS INCLUDED OVER 3,000 MAGAZINES, DEVOTIONALS, BIBLE STUDY HELPS AND OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL BOOKLETS, AUDIO CDS AND OTHER INSPIRATIONAL MATERIALS.
IN REGOGNITION OF SERVICES (IROS) SCHOLARSHIPS: IN 2021, THE ACTIVATED MINISTRIES IROS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CONTINUED TO BENEFIT THE CHILDREN OF PARENTS WHO HAVE SERVED IN THE MISSION FIELD AND, IN MANY CASES, DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PAY, WHILE DONATING THEIR TIME AND EXPERTISE. THIS PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST THESE FAMILIES WHILE THEIR CHILDREN (OR THEMSELVES) PURSUE A POST SECONDARY EDUCATION. THE INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIPS RANGE FROM $500 TO $1,500, AVERAGING $1,000. IN 2021, WE WERE AGAIN LIMITED IN HOW MANY SCHOLARSHIPS WE COULD AWARD DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. NEVERTHELESS, ACTIVATED MINISTRIES WAS ABLE TO AWARD A TOTAL OF 10 IROS SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS IN THE UNITED STATES, INDIA, MEXICO, AND THE UK.
