Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
SAN DIEGO LESBIAN GAY BISEXUAL TRANSGENDER PRIDE IS A NON-PROFIT VOLUNTEER-LED HUMAN RIGHTS AND ARTS & CULTURE ORGANIZATION. ITS MISSION IS TO FOSTER PRIDE AND RESPECT FOR LGBT COMMUNITIES LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
DESPITE THE AVAILABILITY OF VACCINES, RESTRICTIONS ON LARGE-SCALE EVENTS AND THE CONCERN FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR COMMUNITY PREVENTED SAN DIEGO PRIDE FROM HOLDING OUR TYPICAL PRIDE PARADE AND FESTIVAL FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW. THIS, HOWEVER, PROVIDED US AN OPPORTUNITY TO HOLD SMALLER, SAFER PRIDE EVENTS FOR COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE REGION, INCLUDING A LATINX PRIDE EVENT IN BARRIO LOGAN, A HYBRID VIRTUAL/IN-PERSON SHE FEST IN HILLCREST, A YOUTH PRIDE PICNIC FOR OVER 260 LGBTQ+ YOUTH, A PRIDE CONCERT IN EAST COUNTY FEATURING LOCAL AND NATIONAL DRAG QUEENS, AND A QUEER APIMEDA PRIDE EVENT IN THE CONVOY DISTRICT - THE FIRST EVER PRIDE EVENT IN THE CONVOY DISTRICT. WE ALSO BROUGHT BACK OUR VIRTUAL PRIDE EVENT, PRIDE LIVE. PRIDE LIVE HIGHLIGHTED LOCAL ARTISTS, PERFORMERS, LGBTQ+-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND REACHED NOT ONLY SAN DIEGO'S LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY, BUT WAS VIEWED BY LGBTQ+ PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD. LASTLY, DRAWING FROM THE ROOTS OF THE NATIONAL LGBTQ+ RIGHTS MOVEMENT, WE HELD A PEACEFUL PROTEST MARCH FROM BALBOA PARK TO THE PRIDE FLAG IN HILLCREST WHICH SAW OVER 16,000 OF SAN DIEGOS LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY AND ALLIES AND CULMINATED IN A SPEAKING EVENT FEATURING SEVERAL LOCAL CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS.
SAN DIEGO PRIDE CONTINUES TO BE ONE OF THE ONLY PRIDE ORGANIZATIONS IN THE U.S. WITH YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS THAT EMPOWER, EDUCATE, AND ADVOCATE FOR THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY; ESPECIALLY THOSE LIVING AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF MULTIPLE MARGINALIZED IDENTITIES. THE PROGRAMMING THAT WE OFFER FOCUSES ON LGBTQ YOUTH, COMMUNITIES OF COLOR, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, WOMEN, AND MILITARY MEMBERS AND VETERANS.WITH THE CONTINUED IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC THROUGHOUT 2021, SAN DIEGO PRIDE BUILT UPON THE SUCCESS OF THE VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING WE CREATED IN 2020 AND, ONCE VACCINES BECAME AVAILABLE, EVOLVED A HYBRID MODEL OF PROGRAMMING; ALLOWING OUR COMMUNITY TO COME TOGETHER AGAIN IN SAFE SPACES WHILE ALSO INCLUDING THOSE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND IN PERSON. WITH THE SAFETY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF OUR HYBRID-MODEL OF PROGRAMMING, WE WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE EXPANDING OUR PROGRAMS OFFERED, INCLUDING MONTHLY CONCERTS IN ALPINE, CA HIGHLIGHTING LOCAL ARTISTS AND DRAG PERFORMERS, A TWICE-WEEKLY YOUTH QUEERENTEEN VIRTUAL PROGRAM, AN LGBTQ+ ERG (EMPLOYEE RESOURCE GROUP) PANEL AND MIXER, FREE COVID-19 VACCINE CLINICS PARTNERING WITH UCSD HEALTH, AND CONTINUED FINANCIAL RELIEF FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC.
