THE MISSION OF THE CALIFORNIA COUNCIL ON ECONOMIC EDUCATION IS TO IMPROVE CALIFORNIA'S ECONOMIC FUTURE BY TEACHING ECONOMICS AND FINANCIAL LITERACY, ESPECIALLY IN UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITIES. CCEE PROVIDES A BROAD RANGE OF RESOURCES AND TRAINING TO K-12 GRADE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA TO ENHANCE ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL FLUENCY FOR TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

JOHN NICKOLL PROGRAMS: THE JOHN NICKOLL FAMILY FINANCIAL LITERACY EVENTS PROVIDES FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION FOR LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. STUDENTS LEARN VALUABLE LESSONS SUCH AS BUDGETING, CREDIT, BANKING BASICS AND INVESTING. THE ONLINE AND IN PERSON EVENTS GIVES FINANCIAL PROFESSIONALS AN OPPORTUNITY TO VOLUNTEER AND SHARE VALUABLE FINANCIAL EDUCATION TO HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. $MARTPATH IS A DIGITAL PLATFORM DESIGNED TO ASSIST TEACHERS WITH THE DIFFICULT TASK OF TEACHING ECONOMICS AND FINANCIAL EDUCATION TO CHILDREN IN GRADES 1ST - 8TH. TEACHERS HAVE ACCESS TO CURRICULUM THAT CAN BE TAILORED TO CLASSROOM GOALS, INCLUDING TEACHERS OF GIFTED AND SPECIAL NEEDS. ECONOMICS AND FINANCIAL EDUCATION CONCEPTS ARE SPECIFICALLY INTEGRATED INTO CORE ACADEMIC SUBJECTS, PARTICULARLY MATH AND SOCIAL STUDIES, ENSURING THAT ECONOMICS AND FINANCIAL LITERACY CONCEPTS ARE BEING TAUGHT. PRE AND POST ASSESSMENTS ARE EMBEDDED INTO THE PLATFORM, SO TEACHERS CAN EASILY KEEP TRACK OF AND REPORT STUDENT GAINS BY STANDARD. MULTIPLE LEARNING STYLES (VISUAL, AUDITORY, AND TACTILE) ARE COVERED, MAKING IT A RICH PEDAGOGICAL EXPERIENCE FOR A VARIETY OF STUDENTS.
WORKSHOPS: CCEE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS (WORKSHOPS, WEBINARS, 1:1 COACHING, ETC.) SUPPORT TEACHER EFFICACY AND FLUENCY IN ECONOMICS BY PROVIDING TEACHERS WITH THE PROPER TRAINING AND RESOURCES TO TEACH THEIR STUDENTS PERSONAL FINANCE AND ECONOMICS. CCEE CONTINUES TO RUN A DEDICATED ECONOMICS TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM WHICH IS CARRIED OUT IN TWO PHASES. PHASE 1 IS AN INITIAL TRAINING OF 40 HOURS, USUALLY DELIVERED IN-PERSON. DURING THE PANDEMIC, MODIFICATIONS TO IN-PERSON ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN NECESSARY. PHASE 2 OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDES TEACHERS COMPLETING A PORTFOLIO OF WORK, CULMINATING IN A CONTRIBUTION TO ECONOMIC ACTIVITY IN THE COMMUNITY AND A SUMMATIVE EXIT EXAM. FOR THE CURRENT YEAR, CCEE'S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT HAS SPANNED THE K-12 GRADE RANGE, WITH 50% BEING TARGETED TO HIGH SCHOOL AND 50% BEING TARGETED BETWEEN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY.
STUDENT CONTEST: CCEE STUDENT CONTESTS PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO DISPLAY THEIR UNDERSTANDING AND PROFICIENCY IN A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT TO HELP THEM GAIN CRITICAL LIFE SKILLS THROUGHOUT THEIR PREPARATION, AND AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE COMPETITION. CCEE HAS THREE DISTINCT COMPETITIONS ANNUALLY. 1) THE ADVISOR'S CONTEST: STUDENTS COMPETE IN TEAMS OF 4 PROVIDING FINANCIAL ADVISING SERVICES TO A FICTIONAL CLIENT. THEY ARE REQUIRED TO PRESENT AND PREPARE AN INVESTMENT PLAN. STUDENTS ARE MENTORED BY A FINANCIAL PROFESSIONAL AND THEIR TEACHER, LASTLY, STUDENTS PRESENT THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS TO A PANEL OF EXPERT JUDGES. 2) NATIONAL ECONOMICS CHALLENGE: STUDENTS COMPETE IN TEAMS OF 4 AND DEMONSTRATE THEIR ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE THROUGH A SERIES OF TESTS, HIGH-STAKES QUIZ BOWL AND CRITICAL THINKING ROUND. 3) NATIONAL PERSONAL FINANCE CHALLENGE: STUDENT TEAMS PREPARE A BUDGET AND FINANCIAL PLAN IN RESPONSE TO A FICTIONAL CASE-STUDY, STUDENTS PREPARE THEIR PRESENTATION ON THE DAY-OF COMPETITION AND PRESENT IT BEFORE A PANEL OF JUDGES.
