NATIONAL TRAUMA RESEARCH ACTION PLAN (NTRAP) - MORE THAN 400 TRAUMA CARE INVESTIGATORS AND STAKEHOLDERS PARTICIPATING IN THE NTRAP PROJECT ARE PERFORMING A GAP ANALYSIS TO IDENTIFY RESEARCH PRIORITIES ACROSS THE CONTINUUM OF CARE, DEFINING OPTIMAL METRICS TO ASSESS LONG-TERM FUNCTIONAL OUTCOMES FOLLOWING HOSPITAL DISCHARGE, AND IDENTIFYING REGULATORY BARRIERS AND BEST PRACTICES FOR CLINICAL TRAUMA RESEARCH.
HUMACYTE - THE HUMACYTE STUDY, FUNDED THROUGH AN MTEC AWARD, IS A RETROSPECTIVE REVIEW OF THE MEDICAL RECORD FOR PATIENTS ENTERED INTO THE PROOVIT DATABASE TO A) ENSURE COMPLETENESS OF EACH DATA SET AND CONSISTENCY OF DATA COLLECTION, AND B) EVALUATE FOR EVIDENCE OF VASCULAR GRAFT INFECTION, GRAFT THROMBOSIS, VASCULAR RE-INTERVENTION, OR LIMB LOSS UP TO SIX MONTHS POST-DISCHARGE. THE PROOVIT DATABASE CONTAINS RECORDS ON 4,325 PATIENTS FROM 28 CENTERS TO DATE, AND THIS REVIEW WILL PROVIDE INSIGHT INTO THE PATENCY OF THE VASCULAR GRAFT, INCIDENCE OF INFECTIOUS COMPLICATIONS, NEED FOR ADDITIONAL VASCULAR INTERVENTIONS, AMPUTATIONS, AND FUNCTIONAL ABILITY. ADDITIONALLY, THE AWARD PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR ONGOING, PROSPECTIVE ENROLLMENT OF PATIENTS INTO THE PROOVIT DATABASE WITH SPECIFIC FOCUS ON OBTAINING SIX-MONTH POST-DISCHARGE FOLLOW-UP. CNTR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SCREENING, IDENTIFICATION, CONTRACTING, BILLING AND INVOICING EACH OF THE PARTICIPATING SITES.
PROPOLIS - THE PROPOLIS (PLASMA RESUSCITATION WITHOUT LUNG INJURY) STUDY EXAMINES THE USE OF INTERCEPT-TREATED PATHOGEN-REDUCED PLASMA (IPRP) IN THE RESUSCITATION OF BURNED PATIENTS. IPRP IS AN FDA-APPROVED BLOOD COMPONENT THAT HAS UNDERGONE TREATMENT TO REDUCE THE RISK OF TRANSFUSION-TRANSMITTED INFECTION. AS THE COORDINATING CENTER FOR THE MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL STUDY, CNTR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR END-TO-END STUDY MANAGEMENT ACROSS FIVE CLINICAL SITES AND TWO LABORATORIES INVOLVING ALL POLICY AND PROCEDURE, TRAINING, AND HUMAN SUBJECT PROTECTION ACTIVITIES. AFTER A RAMP-UP AND INITIATION PERIOD, THIS THREE-YEAR STUDY, FUNDED BY THE DEFENSE MEDICAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, IS NOW BEGINNING TO ENROLL PATIENTS.
