BEHIND THE BOOK (BTB) DEVELOPS ENGAGED READERS AND WRITERS IN UNDERSERVED NYC PUBLIC SCHOOLS BY DESIGNING AND DELIVERING PROGRAMS THAT ARE MULTI-DISCIPLINARY, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE, AND PROMOTE DEEPER CONNECTIONS TO BOOKS AND THEIR AUTHORS.BEHIND THE BOOK IS A LITERACY NONPROFIT SERVING PREK 12TH GRADE STUDENTS IN TITLE L NYC PUBLIC SCHOOLS. BTB PARTNERS WITH TEACHERS TO CREATE IMMERSIVE CURRICULUM UNITS BASED ON A BOOK THAT INCLUDE WORKING WITH THE AUTHOR, WRITING, ART, AND EXPLORING THE CONTENT OF THE BOOK THROUGH DRAMA, AND RELEVANT FIELD TRIPS.BTB EMPOWERS THE NEXT GENERATION OF READERS AND WRITERS BY NURTURING CRITICAL THINKING, CREATIVITY, AND SELF-CONFIDENCE IN OUR STUDENTS, GIVING THEM THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.IN 2022 BTB SERVED 1,766 STUDENTS IN 14 SCHOOLS THROUGH 77 PROGRAMS CONSISTING OF 491 WORKSHOPS IN MANHATTAN AND THE BRONX. 39% OF OUR PROGRAMS SERVED STUDENTS IN SPECIAL ED CLASSROOMS AND 24 PROGRAMS TOOK PLACE WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS. PROGRAMS WERE CONDUCTED BOTH REMOTELY AND IN PERSON. ALL OF OUR SCHOOL PARTNERS HAVE COMMITTED TO PARTNERING WITH US FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR AND WE HAVE ADDED ADDITIONAL SCHOOLS FOR FY23.BTB DONATED 17,300 BOOKS TO STUDENTS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES.
