IN COORDINATION WITH PRINCIPAL YOUNGQUIST AND EAST'S FACILITIES DEPARTMENT, EAFAF CONTRIBUTED $15,000 TO THE RENOVATION OF THE TEACHER'S LOUNGE. IN ADDITION, EAFAF PAID APPROXIMATELY $10,000 FOR INSTALLATION OF COMMEMORATIVE BRICKS AND PAVERS IN THE SCHOOL ENTRYWAY AND $23,199 FOR THE INSTALLATION OF GLASS AND LIGHTING IN EAST HIGH SCHOOL'S HERITAGE HALL AND MUSEUM. THE EAST HERITAGE HALL RECOGNIZES SELECT ALUMNI WHO HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT AND ENDURING CONTRIBUTIONS IN THEIR FIELDS OF ENDEAVOR AND HAVE ELEVATED THE STATURE OF EAST HIGH SCHOOL AND ITS STUDENTS.
FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR, EAFAF FACULTY/STAFF GRANT COMMITTEE RECEIVED 20 GRANT APPLICATIONS TOTALLING APPROXIMATELY $47,500. EAFAF FULLY AND/OR PARTIALLY FUNDED 16 GRANTS FOR $27,809. THESE FUNDS ENHANCED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER,LIBRARY, LEADERSHIP, BUSINESS, JOURNALISM, LANGUAGES, ROBOTICS, ENGINEERING, SPECIAL EDUCATION, AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS. GRANT APPLICATIONS DECLINED LAST YEAR DUE TO THE PANDEMIC LIMITING STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ATTENDING SCHOOL IN PERSON.
THE EAST ANGEL FRIENDS AND ALUMNI FOUNDATION PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING GRADUATING STUDENTS WHO HAVE ATTENDED EAST HIGH SCHOOL FOR A MINIMUM OF THREE YEARS AND EXHIBIT EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMICS AS WELL AS STRONG PARTICIPATION IN SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES, AND THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE CHARACTER AND COMMITMENT TO THEIR EDUCATION. FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE EAFAF BOARD ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS. FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR THERE WERE 34 APPLICANTS AND EAFAF AWARDED 22 NEW INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND 4 RENEWING SCHOLARSHIPS RANGING FROM $2,000 TO $25,000 FOR A TOTAL OF $150,000 AWARDED.
