Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

THE EDUCATIONAL THEATRE ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT IS THE FUNDRAISING ARM OF EDUCATIONAL THEATRE ASSOCIATION (EDTA). THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO ENHANCE THEATRE EDUCATION AND TO EXPAND ACCESS TO SCHOOL THEATRE PROGRAMS FOR EVERY STUDENT.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE JUMPSTART THEATRE PROGRAM WAS CREATED BY EDTA, IN COLLABORATION WITH NEW YORK CITY-BASED COMPANIES ITHEATRICS AND MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL (MTI). JUMPSTART THEATRE IS A SCALABLE PROGRAM DESIGNED TO BUILD SUSTAINABLE MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS WHERE THERE PREVIOUSLY WERE NONE. THE PILOT PROGRAM LAUNCHED IN CINCINNATI IN 2015, AND IN 2018 THE PROGRAM EXPANDED NATIONALLY TO FOUR ADDITIONAL LOCATIONS. THROUGH IDENTIFIED LOCAL PARTNER THEATRES, SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS RECEIVE STIPENDS AND GRANTS TO FACILITATE BOTH THE PRODUCTION OF NEW MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAMS AS WELL AS A TWO YEAR TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION PROGRAM THAT WILL EQUIP LOCAL EDUCATORS TO CONTINUE THE PROGRAM AFTER THE THREE YEAR FUNDING CYCLE IS COMPLETED.

THE FOUNDATION GRANTS CASH AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS ANNUALLY TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE GRANTS ARE USED FOR THEATRE EDUCATION IN INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING. THE FOUNDATION ALSO AWARDS GRANTS TO STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF ATTENDING EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES WHERE FUNDING IS A BARRIER TO ATTENDANCE.

THE PATHWAY GRANT PROGRAM HONORS THE LATE CRIAG ZADAN, A VISIONARY WITH A LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO ADDRESSING ISSUES OF DIVERSITY. PATHWAY AIMS TO ENHANCE THE SCHOOL THEATRE EXPERIENCE AND IMPACT IN COMMUNITIES FACING RACIAL DISPARITY BY ISSUING CASH GRANTS TO HIGH SCHOOLS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A MUSICAL OR PLAY THAT ENCOURAGES DIALOGUE AROUND ISSUES OF RACE AND RACIAL EQUITY. GRANT FUNDS ARE USED TO HIRE PROFESSIONALS OF COLOR WHO ACT AS MENTORS TO STUDENTS, BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AND SEEDING VISION FOR POTENTIAL CAREER PATHWAYS.

THE FOUNDATION GRANTED FUNDS TO SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY THAT WERE AFFECTED BY THE COVID PANDEMIC AND DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS WERE UNABLE TO CONTINUE THEIR THESPIAN PROGRAMS AT THEIR SCHOOL, OR UNABLE TO JOIN A TROUPE AND CONTINUE THEIR THESPIAN EDUCATION. FUNDS DISTRIBUTED TO SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS ALLOWED THEM TO CONTINUE THEIR THESPIAN PROGRAMS DURING THE PANDEMIC WHERE FUNDING SHORTFALLS AND BUDGET CUTS WOULD OTHERWISE CANCEL THE PROGRAMS PROGRESS.
