THE FOUNDATION EXISTS TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT PREACHING EXCELLANCE IN THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH. THE ORGANIZATION'S FOCUS ON PREACHING REFLECTS THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD PREACHING TO THE VITALITY OF THE CHURCH. PREACHING IS CITED IN NATIONAL SURVEYS (GALLUP, 2017 AND PEW RESEARCH CENTER, 2016) TO BE THE LEADING FACTOR IN CHOOSING A PLACE OF WORSHIP AND ATTENDING SERVICES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE PREACHING EXCELLENCE PROGRAM ("PEP") FOR SEMINARIANS. EACH YEAR THE ORGANIZATION HOSTS 50 PROMISING PREACHING STUDENTS NOMINATED BY THE DEANS OF EPISCOPAL SEMINARIES, LOCAL FORMATION PROGRAMS, AND ANGLICAN SEMINARIES IN CANADA, TO A ONE-WEEK RESIDENTIAL CONFERENCE WITH A SINGLE- MINDED FOCUS ON PREACHING. THE ORGANIZATION UNDERWRITES 80% OF THE COST, WITH THE BALANCE FUNDED BY THE STUDENT, HIS/HER SCHOOL AND THE DIOCESE.


ONLINE PREACHING CONFERENCES: A COVID-INDUCED SHIFT TO ONLINE CONFERENCE DELIVERY HAS TO LED TO A LONGER-TERM MIGRATION OF SELECTED ORGANIZATION'S PREACHING CONFERENCES TO ZOOM FORMAT, THEREBY INCREASING ACCESSIBILITY TO TIME-CHALLENGED CLERGY.


THE LAY PREACHER TRAINING INITIATIVE (LPTI), FUNDED BY A THREE-YEAR GRANT FROM TRINITY CHURCH WALL STREET (2021-2023). A TWO-YEAR TRAINING PROGRAM FOR LAY PREACHERS, CURRENTLY PILOT TESTING IN SIX EPISCOPAL DIOCESES WITH 30 ACTIVE LAY PREACHER CANDIDATES. THE PROGRAM DRAWS ON THE ORGANIZATION'S SELF-STUDY HOMILETICS (PREACHING) CURRICULUM DEVELOPED IN 2020 IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SEMINARY OF THE SOUTHWEST'S IONA COLLABORATIVE, COMBINED WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S FACULTY LEADERSHIP.


THE PREACHING CONGREGATION, A PILOT PROGRAM FUNDED BY A FIVE-YEAR GRANT FROM THE LILLY ENDOWMENT (GRANT TERM 2023 - 2028) TO DEVELOP A ROBUST METHODOLOGY FOR PROVIDING INFORMED FEEDBACK TO PREACHERS, BY GROUPS OF TRAINED CONGREGANTS IN ANY PARISH.
