THE PRIMARY MISSION OF THE SCIOTO SOCIETY, INC. IS TO ENHANCE THE CULTURAL, HISTORICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT OF THE SCIOTO VALLEY, THE STATE OF OHIO, THE REGION, AND THE NATION PRIMARILY THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF THE HISTORICAL DRAMA "TECUMSEH!". THROUGH THE SOCIETY'S COMMITMENT TO THE DRAMA, AND TOWARD ENHANCING THE CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL IMPACT OF THE AREA, IT HAS UNDERTAKEN SEVERAL SUBSIDIARY PROGRAMS, WHICH HAVE BENEFITED AREA RESIDENTS AND EMPLOYEES ALIKE. STAFF AND CREW MEMBERS HAVE LECTURED AND SPOKEN TO THOUSANDS OF CIVIC, SOCIAL, AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS OVER THE YEARS ON THE TOPICS PRESENTED IN THE DRAMA AND MOMENTOUS EVENTS THAT SERVED TO SHAPE THE COUNTRY IN ITS EARLY DAYS. IN ADDITION, THE SOCIETY HAS UNDERTAKEN MANY SUBSIDIARY PROGRAMS OVER THE YEARS WHICH HAVE BENEFITED THE COMMUNITY. IT HAS PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN DEVELOPING THE SCIOTO VALLEY ARTS COUNCIL AND THE ROSS-CHILLICOTHE CONVETION AND VISITORS' BUREAU. THE ORGANIZATION HAS ADDITIONALLY SPONSORED SYMPHONY, FOLK, COUNTRY, ROCK CONCERTS FOR THE COMMUNITY; COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN'S THEATRE, STATEHOOD DAY CELEBRATIONS AND BICENTENNIAL EVENTS. IN THE EDUCATION AREA IT HAS GIVEN LECTURES AND TALKS TO SERVICE CLUBS AT THE LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL LEVEL, AND CONTINUES TO OFFER COLLEGE CREDIT IN UNDERGRADUATE AND APPRENTICESHIPS PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG ACTORS AND TECHNICIANS.
