THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF ISRAEL SPORT CENTER FOR THE DISABLED IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING ONGOING FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE CENTER, EMPOWERING CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS TO PARTICIPATE IN PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL REHABILITATION THROUGH SPORTS TO ATTAIN THE GOAL OF LEADING PRODUCTIVE AND SUCCESSFUL LIVES IN ISRAELI SOCIETY.THE ISRAEL SPORT CENTER FOR THE DISABLED IS ONE OF THE WORLD PIONEERS IN THE FIELD OF SPORTS REHABILITATION. THE CENTER OPENED ITS GATES IN 1960 AND SPECIALIZES IN THE PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL REHABILITATION OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH. FOR 60 YEARS, OUR REMARKABLE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS HAVE ENCOURAGED THE DISABLED TO PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF SPORTS ACTIVITIES AND TO BENEFIT FROM THE COUNTLESS WAYS IN WHICH SPORTS IS HEALING.THE SPIRIT AND MOTIVATION OF SPORT IS USED TO GUIDE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO BUILD SELF ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE LEADING TO PRODUCTIVE, FULLING LIVES IN ISRAELI SOCIETY. SPORTS ACTIVITIES CONTRIBUTE MORE TO THE CONFIDENCE, MORALE, AND SELF-IMAGE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES THAN ANY OTHER FORM OF REHABILITATION. FOR THE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN THAT HAVE BENEFITTED FROM THE ISRAEL SPORT CENTER FOR THE DISABLED, THE CENTER'S SPORTS ACTIVITIES HAVE PROVEN TO PROLONG LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE SERIOUSLY DISABLED. TODAY, OVER 2,000 KIDS AND ADULTS PARTICIPATE IN 20 DIFFERENT SPORTS ACTIVITIES WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION OF RELIGION, RACE, OR ETHNICITY. IN THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS THE CENTER HAS GROWN MORE VISIBLE AROUND THE U.S. AND ABROAD.
