Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
SERVING THE MIDDLE GEORGIA AREA WITH LOW-INCOME HOUSING SOLUTIONS THROUGH THE FULLER CENTER FOR HOUSINGS SAVE A HOUSE/MAKE A HOME AND GREATER BLESSINGS PROGRAMS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE GREATER BLESSINGS PROGRAM MAKES CRITICAL HOME REPAIRS FOR DISADVANAGED HOMEOWNERS. THESE CITIZENS DO NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY INCOME REQUIRED TO REPLACE A ROOF, INSTALL A HANDICAP RAMP OR REPLACE A HOT WATER HEATER. USUALLY THE REPAIRS COST $5,000 OR LESS. FOLLOWING THE CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLE THAT IT IS BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE, WE GIVE THE HOMEOWNER A "GREATER BLESSINGS" WOODEN BOX WITH DONATIONS ENVELOPES INSIDE. WE ASK THE HOMEOWNER, IF ABLE, TO HELP PAY BACK THE COST OF MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES USED IN THE PROJECT.
THE SAVE-A-HOUSE/MAKE-A-HOME PROGRAM CREATES AFFORDABLE HOUSING BY RECEIVING DONATED DERELICT PROPERTIES, AND RENOVATING THOSE PROPERTIES FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES. THE FAMILY PURCHASES THE HOUSE BY MAKING ZERO INTEREST MORTGAGE PAYMENTS OVER A 20-25 YEAR PERIOD. BY ASSESSING NO INTEREST, USING VOLUNTEER LABOR AND DONATED MATERIALS, THE PAYMENTS ARE AFFORDABLE FOR DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES. THE CYCLE OF POVERTY CAN BE BROKEN THROUGH THIS PROGRAM BY GIVING FAMILIES A HAND UP AND NOT A HAND OUT. THE PROGRAM ENCOURAGES COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION IN TARGETED AREAS AND CREATES PARTNERSHIPS WITH SCHOOLS, BUSINESSES, THE COMMUNITY AND FAMILIES.
