THE FOUNDATION'S PRIMARY ACTIVITIES DURING FISCAL 2023 FOCUSED ON (I) GRANTMAKING IN SUPPORT OF THE FOUNDATION'S MISSIONS; AND (II) PROMOTING AND GENERATING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE FOUNDATION AND ITS GRANTMAKING PROGRAMS, SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS TO ENSURE ALL COMMUNITIES HAVE THE CHANCE TO PLAY SPORTS, LEARN AND PROSPER, AND EXPERIENCE THE OUTDOORS.THE FOUNDATION'S PRIMARY FOCUS IS ENSURING ALL YOUTH HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY AND BENEFIT FROM SPORTS. THE FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHES THIS OBJECTIVE THROUGH ITS SPORTS MATTER PROGRAM, WHICH INCLUDES GRANT-MAKING AND A PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO ADDRESS THE BARRIERS OF PARTICIPATION IN YOUTH SPORTS, INCLUDING ACCESSIBILITY OF EQUIPMENT, SAFE RECREATIONAL SPACE TO PLAY, LEAGUE COSTS TO MAINTAIN YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES, AND FAMILY REGISTRATION FEES OFTEN REQUIRED FOR YOUTH SPORT PARTICIPATION.
THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTS ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES THROUGH NEW PROGRAMS ESTABLISHED FOR EDUCATION AND THE OUTDOORS. THE FOUNDATION HAS A LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP WITH A PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT LOCATED OUTSIDE OF PITTSBURGH, PA. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DISTRICT, THE FOUNDATION IS WORKING TO BETTER SERVE THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND STAFF IN THE COMMUNITY TO HELP DEVELOP HEALTHY MINDS, BODIES AND RELATIONSHIPS NECESSARY TO SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATE TODAY'S WORLD. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION'S PUBLIC LANDS FUND PROVIDES GRANTS TO LOCAL AND NATIONAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROTECT AND MAINTAIN PUBLIC LANDS, BREAK DOWN THE BARRIERS OF ACCESS TO OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES, AND IMPROVE INCLUSION AND EQUITY IN THE OUTDOORS.
