TO PROVIDE A FORUM IN WHICH ITS MEMBERS MAY DISCUSS, EVALUATE AND PROMOTE POLICIES AND ACTIVITIES THAT WILL ENHANCE AND PROTECT THE COMFORT, CONVENIENCE AND WELL-BEING OF THE LAUREL LAKE RESIDENTS IN A COST-EFFECTIVE MANNER.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION. THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE ASSOCIATION CONSISTS ONLY OF ALL RESIDENTS OF LAUREL LAKE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY, INC. (LLRC), A CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY, WHO HAVE PAID THEIR ENTRANCE FEE TO LLRC. LLRC PROHIBITS ALL ITS EMPLOYEES AND STAFF FROM ACCEPTING ANY GRATUITY FROM RESIDENTS. IN ORDER TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND EXPRESS THEIR APPRECIATION FOR SERVICES RECEIVED, THE ASSOCIATION CONDUCTS A FUND-RAISING EVENT AMONG ONLY ITS MEMBERS AND DELIVERS ALL FUNDS COLLECTED TO LLRC FOR DISTRIBUTION TO ALL EMPLOYEES AND STAFF EXCEPT LLRC'S CEO AND THOSE SENIOR MANAGERS WHO REPORT DIRECTLY TO THE CEO. APPROXIMATELY 218 EMPLOYEES RECEIVED A MINIMUM PAYMENT (BEFORE TAXES) OF $51 UP TO A MAXIMUM OF APPROXIMATELY $2,036, ALLOCATED BASED ON HOURS WORKED. APPROXIMATELY 78% OF ALL RESIDENTS CONTRIBUTED.
DONATION. FROM TIME TO TIME THE ASSOCIATION MAKES DONATIONS TO OTHER QUALIFYING NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY. THIS YEAR WE CHOSE TO DONATE THE FUNDS TO THE HUDSON CITY EMS TO PURCHASE A DEFIBRILLATOR FOR ONE OF THEIR RESCUE UNITS.
RESIDENT PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES. AS MEMBERS TRANSITION FROM INDEPENDENT LIVING TO ASSISTED LIVING, LONG-TERM CARE AND SKILLED-NURSING CARE AND EVENTUALLY DIE, THEY OR THEIR SURVIVORS DONATE USED HOUSEHOLD FURNITURE AND OTHER ITEMS TO THE ASSOCIATION. THE ASSOCIATION SELLS THESE ITEMS TO OTHER MEMBERS AND TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. FUNDS RECEIVED, EXCEPT FOR NOMINAL AMOUNTS SPENT FOR SUPPLIES AND FEES, ARE EITHER USED TO PLAN, DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT AND SUPPORT SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES FOR ITS MEMBERS, OR ARE DONATED TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE SERVICES BENEFIT THE ASSOCIATION'S MEMBERS. RECURRING RESIDENT PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES HAVE INCLUDED SUPPORTING RESIDENTS WHO PLANT AND TEND VEGETABLE AND FLOWER GARDENS; ENABLING RESIDENTS TO PURCHASE FLOWER BOXES FOR APARTMENT BALCONIES; KNITTING CAPS FOR CHILDREN AND HELMET LINERS FOR SOLDIERS; GROWING, GATHERING, PURCHASING, ARRANGING AND DELIVERING FLOWERS TO LONG-TERM CARE AND SKILLED-NURSING RESIDENTS; MAINTAINING A LIBRARY OF MORE THAN 6,500 VOLUMES PLUS AUDIO AND VIDEO CDS AND DVDS; DELIVERING USED FABRIC AND CLOTHING FOR RECYCLING OR DISTRIBUTION TO THE POOR AND HOMELESS; AND ORGANIZING AND PRESENTING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON RECYCLING AND CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT.
