BUENA VISTA EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD PROGRAM (BVESY)BVESY HAS A PARTNERSHIP WITH BUENA VISTA ELEMENTARY PUBLIC SCHOOL LOCATED ACROSS THE STREET. THEY PROVIDE THE STUDENTS KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SIXTH GRADE WITH GARDEN AND KITCHEN LESSONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS. TEACHING STUDENTS WHERE FOOD COMES FROM, HOW TO SUSTAINABLY GROW, AND LIFE CYCLES IN THE GARDEN LESSONS. THE KITCHEN LESSONS TEACH THE STUDENTS KITCHEN SKILLS, HEALTHY COOKING HABITS, AND HOW TO WORK WITH OTHERS. BVESY ALSO WILL PUT ON CLASSES AFTER SCHOOL HOURS WITH THE STUDENTS AND PARENTS OF BUENA VISTA ELEMENTARY TO FURTHER PROMOTE HEALTHY EATING. THE PROGRAM HOSTS AN ANNUAL FUNDRAISER IN THE SPRING TIME TO RAISE FUNDS AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH WITH A PLANT SALE. BVESY HAS ALSO BEEN EXPANDING ITS COMMUNITY OUTREACH HOSTING COOKING CLASSES FOR OTHERS OUTSIDE OF THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NEARBY PUBLIC SCHOOL. BVESY IS ALSO CONTRACTING WITH OTHER NONPROFITS TO BUILD EDIBLE SCHOOLYARDS ON THEIR SITES.
IN-SCHOOL STAFFING & CURRICULUM PROGRAMTHE IN-SCHOOL STAFFING AND CURRICULUM PROGRAM WORKS TO HELP THE EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD PROGRAMS RUN EFFICIENTLY AND GIVE THE STUDENTS THE BEST EXPERIENCE WHILE LEARNING IN THE GARDENS AND KITCHENS. THE FOUNDATION'S ESY MANAGEMENT STAFF MEETS WITH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION THROUGHOUT THE YEAR PROVIDING FEEDBACK AND SUGGESTIONS FROM OBSERVING THE DIFFERENT ESY PROGRAMS. THE ESY ADMIN STAFF ALSO PROVIDES GUIDANCE AND HELP TO THE ESY TEACHERS AT THE SCHOOLS WHEN HELP IS NEEDED. THE FOUNDATION'S ESY MANAGEMENT TEAM WORKED WITH AN OUTSIDE CONSULTANT "GROW YOUR LUNCH LLC". WITH THE HELP OF THE OUTSIDE CONSULTANT LESSON PLANS AND BEST PRACTICES WHERE CREATED TO INTEGRATE COMMON CORE STANDARDS INTO THE GARDEN AND KITCHEN LESSONS AT THE SCHOOL. THE FOUNDATION'S ESY MANAGEMENT TEAM ALSO WORKED ON THE PLANNING AND BUILD OUT OF THE NEW EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD FOR THE GRIMMWAY ACADEMY SHAFTER CAMPUS.
