Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
PERSONAL ADVANCEMENT & CAREER ENHANCEMENT - GAP INC'S GLOBAL P.A.C.E. PROGRAM HELPS WOMEN GAIN THE SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE THEY NEED TO ADVANCE AT WORK AND IN THEIR LIVES. THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE PROGRAM IS TO POSITIVELY IMPACT FEMALE GARMENT WORKERS (FGWS) BY PROVIDING THEM WITH SKILLS THAT WILL HELP THEM ADVANCE IN THE WORKPLACE AND IN THEIR PERSONAL LIVES, THROUGH LIFE SKILLS TRAINING. THE P.A.C.E. CURRICULUM COVERS A VARIETY OF TOPICS THAT ARE CRUCIAL TO GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. EACH MODULE IS DESIGNED TO ENHANCE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES AND TO HELP PARTICIPANTS UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS IN A HOLISTIC WAY. THE PROGRAM COVERS UP TO 8 MODULES OF LEARNING: (1) COMMUNICATION; (2) PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING; (3) TIME AND STRESS MANAGEMENT; (4) WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE; (5) EXECUTION EXCELLENCE; (6) GENERAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH; (7) FINANCIAL LITERACY; AND (8) LEGAL LITERACY AND SOCIAL ENTITLEMENTS. EXECUTION EXCELLENCE IS A MODULE OF LEARNING THAT TEACHES WORKERS HOW TO APPLY THEIR NEWLY LEARNED SKILLS, PARTICULARLY IN THE WORKPLACE. MODULES 1-3 ARE "CORE" TO THE WOMEN'S LEARNING AND ARE THEREFORE REQUIRED. THEY ARE THE FOUNDATIONAL MODULES WHICH ARE DESIGNED TO DIRECTLY AFFECT THE WOMEN'S PERSONAL AND WORK LIVES. MODULE 4 IS ALSO REQUIRED, AND MODULES 5-8 ARE SUPPLEMENTARY. THE PROGRAM CONSISTS OF APPROXIMATELY 58 HOURS OF LEARNING AND CAN TAKE FROM 6 WEEKS TO 10 MONTHS TO COMPLETE DEPENDING ON THE INTENSITY. SHARE HOPE IS THE ONLY LICENSED IMPLEMENTOR OF THIS PROGRAM IN HAITI, AND SHARE HOPE HAS THE ONLY GOLD LEVEL TRAINERS OF THIS CURRICULUM IN THE COUNTRY. - IN 2021 IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF EXTREME SOCIAL UNREST, SHARE HOPE TRAINED 781 WOMEN. OF THESE, 723 WERE UNEMPLOYED WORKERS TO WHOM WE GAVE A TRANSPORTATION AND FOOD STIPEND THAT AMOUNTED TO APPROXIMATELY $38 PER PERSON OVER THE 19 SESSIONS OF THEIR COURSE ATTENDANCE.IN ADDITION TO THE AUTONOMOUS IMPLEMENTATION OF THE P.A.C.E. PROGRAM, SHARE HOPE OVERSEES THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROGRAM IN THREE FACTORIES WHERE GAP INC. SOURCES. THESE FACTORIES COLLECTIVELY EMPLOY 15,000 WORKERS.
THE FACTORY CLINIC IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (ORIGINALLY LAUNCHED IN 2016 WITH THE ILO/BETTER WORK PROGRAM) CONTINUES TO OFFER FACTORY CLINIC NURSES HEALTH EDUCATION SEMINARS. OF THE 32 FACTORIES IN HAITI, 14 ENROLLED THEIR CLINICS. THESE SEMINARS TYPICALLY LAST 3 TO 6 HOURS AND COVER A VARIETY OF TOPICS. THE NURSES RECEIVE CERTIFICATES FOR HAVING COMPLETED THE SEMINARS.
EARTHQUAKE RELIEF: ON AUGUST 14TH 2021 A DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE HIT THE SOUTHERN REGION OF HAITI. HUMANITARIAN RELIEF HAS NOT BEEN WITHIN THE WORK OF SHARE HOPE, HOWEVER WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE DEVASTATING INCIDENT, THE BOARD WANTED TO RESPOND WITH SOME FORM OF ASSISTANCE. THE DECISION WAS MADE TO BRING HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE IN THE FORM OF HUMANITARIAN RELIEF KITS CONTAINING BOTH PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS AND STAPLE FOOD ITEMS. WITHIN 2 WEEKS WE HAD FUNDING COMMITMENTS OF $125K TO COVER THE ANTICIPATED COST OF THESE KITS AND PREPARED RELIEF KITS FOR 1000 FAMILIES. A GENEROUS DONOR FLEW THE CARGO CONTAINING NECESSARY ITEMS PURCHASED IN THE US IN A PRIVATE PLANE TO HAITI. MOST ITEMS WERE PURCHASED LOCALLY TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL ECONOMY. SHARE HOPE UTILIZED ALL OF ITS HUMAN RESOURCES BOTH STAFF AND THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS TO PREPARE THE KITS. DELIVERY WAS MADE BOTH BY PLANE AND BY ROAD WITHIN AN ENVIRONMENT OF UNPRECEDENTED INSECURITY. SHARE HOPE PARTNERED WITH HOPE FOR HAITI (AN NGO THAT HAD BEEN WORKING IN THE AREA FOR 32 YEARS) AND SENT OUR STAFF TO THE REGION FOR ONE MONTH TO SUPERVISE AND ASSIST THE DISTRIBUTION OF THESE KITS.
SHARE HOPE FOUNDATION DISCONTINUED ITS HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION PROGRAM AS OF JANUARY 2021. THE GANG VIOLENCE AND CIVIL UNREST DID NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO STAY ANY ADDITIONAL HOURS AFTER WORK, NOR DID IT ALLOW FOR THE TEACHERS TO TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE SCHOOL SITE. THE TEAM OF DEDICATED TEACHERS LOOKS FORWARD TO A TIME WHEN WE WOULD BE ABLE TO RESUME WHAT WAS A UNIQUE AND MUCH APPRECIATED PROGRAM. THE SHARE HOPE TEAM IS PROUD TO REPORT THAT ONE STUDENT (WISLENE LEBRUN) FROM OUR FIRST HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION PROGRAM COHORT IN 2016 GRADUATED FROM LAW SCHOOL IN HAITI IN FEBRUARY OF 2021. WE ARE PROUD OF HER AND THE 240 WOMEN AND MEN WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM AND PASS THEIR NATIONAL BACCALAUREATE EXAMS.
