THE NATIONAL IMMIGRANT FARMING INITIATIVE (NIFI), PROVIDED EDUCATION,OUTREACH AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH RISK MANAGEMENT EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS TO SUPPORTHISPANIC,NEW AND BEGINNING FARMERS IN DONA ANA,OTERO,AND LUNA COUNTIES IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO. BUILDING ON EXPERIENCE WITH MEMBERS OF THE AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY IN NEW MEXICO, NIFI PROVIDED TARGETED TRAINING ON RISK MANAGEMENT TOOLS INCLUDING SPECIALTY CROPS,IRRIGATION, EROSION CONTROL MEASURES, AND GOOD FARMING PRACTICES TO FARMERS LOCATED IN THE COLONIAS BORDER REGION. NIFI CONTRACTS LOCAL BASED CONSULTANTS IN CHAPARRAL, N.M. SAND OTHER AREAS TO EDUCATE AND PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO MEMBERS OF THE AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY THAT INCLUDES WOMEN, SENIORS, HISPANICS, SOCIAL DISADVANTAGED, AND NEW AND BEGINNING FARMERS
