SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP) - IS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS, BUT DUE TO LACK OF ACCESS AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROGRAM MANY INDIVIDUALS DO NOT APPLY TO RECEIVE BENEFITS. DURING THE YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION ASSISTED WITH 13,034 SNAP APPLICATIONS THROUGH THE IFBA HOTLINE AND OUTREACH SPECIALISTS ACROSS THE STATE.
IN COLLABORATION WITH THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND LAND STEWARDSHIP, AND IOWA PORK PRODUCERS, THE "PASS THE PORK" PROJECT WAS CREATED DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC. FUNDS WERE RAISED ONLINE TO HELP IFBA MEMBER FOOD BANKS PURCHASE PORK FOR PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION. CARES ACT FUNDS WERE USED, BUT ALL EXPENDED IN PREVIOUS YEARS. THE REMAINING "PASS THE PORK" FUNDS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FOOD BANKS BASED ON TEFAP PERCENTAGES TO ENSURE IOWANS ACROSS THE STATE RECEIVED GREATLY NEEDED PROTEIN.
