THE CCAC FUNCTIONS IN TWO PRIMARY ARENAS WITH A TEAM OF FULL-TIME CAREER ADVISORS: AT THE CENTER, WHICH IS A CENTRAL LOCATION OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY THAT PROVIDES FREE ON-SITE ADVISING 6 DAYS A WEEK, AND OUT IN THE 13 CONNECTED COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICTS. ADVISORS ARE HOUSED IN THE DISTRICTS TO PROVIDE 1:1 ADVISING FOR SENIORS POST SECONDARY CAREER PLANS. POST- SECONDARY CAREER PLANS INCLUDE THE SKILLED TRADES, APPRENTICESHIPS, TRADITIONAL 2-4 YEAR DEGREES, MILITARY, OR GOING STRAIGHT TO WORK AT A POSITION THAT OFFERS A VALUABLE CREDENTIAL. ADVISORS WORK WITH CLIENTS ON COMPLETING COLLEGE AND SKILLED TRADE APPLICATIONS, FAFSA, SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS, AND LOAN APPLICATIONS. ADDITIONAL CAREER PREPARATION INCLUDES CAREER ASSESSMENTS, RESUME/COVER LETTER WRITING, INTERVIEW/SOFT SKILLS, AND JOB SEARCH.
THIS PAST YEAR, THE CCAC HAS DOUBLED DOWN ON ITS EFFORTS TO REACH OUT TO THE "LOST CLASSES" OF 2020 AND 2021 DUE TO THE PANDEMIC THROUGH OUR COLLEGE GET IT DONE CLASS OF 2020 AND 2021 INITIATIVE. THIS INCLUDED INCREASED COMMUNITY OUTREACH BOTH VIRTUALLY AND IN PERSON THROUGH REENGAGING STUDENTS WHOSE POST-SECONDARY PLANS WERE AFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE CCAC PROVIDED SOCIAL MEDIA AND CANVASSING EFFORTS, FAFSA FRIDAY MOBILE EVENTS WITH FOOD TRUCKS AND PRIZE INCENTIVES, AND SUMMER MELT OUTREACH SERVICES, WHICH INCLUDED TEXTING, CALLING, 1:1 MEETINGS AND COUNTY VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS. THE JUNIORS OVER THE LOCAL CIRCUIT PROGRAM IS FOR EVERY 11TH GRADER IN THE 13 SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITH THE GOAL OF PROVIDING A CAMPUS TOUR AND ADMISSIONS PRESENTATIONS FOR EXPOSURE TO A COMMUNITY COLLEGE, CAREER COLLEGE, AND LIBERAL ARTS INSTITUTION (JACKSON COLLEGE, BAKER COLLEGE, AND SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSIETY). THIS YEAR, THESE TOURS/ADMISSIONS PRESENTATIONS WERE DONE VIRTUALLY FOR ALL STUDENTS.
