Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM DURING FISCAL YEAR 2020, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF NORTH CAROLINA SUPPORTED THE BUILDING OF 229 HOMES BY OUR 63 AFFILIATES. WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD THAT WE MAINTAINED STATEWIDE PRODUCTION DURING THE PANDEMIC, DOWN ONLY 3 HOMES VS THE PREVIOUS FISCAL YEAR. THESE SAFE, AFFORDABLE HOMES ARE PURCHASED BY THE HOMEBUYER AT AN INTEREST RATE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN THE MARKET RATE OFTEN AT, AND NEVER COST THE HOMEBUYER MORE THAN 30 OF THEIR INCOME. THESE HOMES PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY A HOME TO MANY WHO WOULD BE UNABLE TO AFFORD IT ON THE COMPETITIVE HOUSING MARKET.
HOME PRESERVATION PROGRAM HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF NORTH CAROLINA HAS PARTNERED WITH LOCAL AFFILIATES THAT REPAIRED 640 HOMES DURING FY2020, UP 40 VS THE PREVIOUS YEAR, THANKS, IN PART, TO A ROBUST DISASTER RESPONSE. HOME PRESERVATION PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOW- TO MODERATE-INCOME HOMEOWNERS WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO MAINTAIN THEIR HOMES BECAUSE OF AGE, DISABILITY, OR FAMILY CIRCUMSTANCES. THESE PROGRAMS ALLOW FAMILIES TO STAY IN THEIR HOME AND AVOID THE UNCERTAINTY, TRAUMA, AND EXPENSE OF MOVING. PROJECTS CONSIST OF INTERIOR AND/OR EXTERIOR REPAIRS INTENDED TO ALLEVIATE CRITICAL HEALTH, LIFE, AND SAFETY ISSUES OR CODE VIOLATIONS. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF NORTH CAROLINA SOURCES FUNDS TO AFFILIATES TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS AND ALSO PROVIDES BEST PRACTICE TRAINING TO AFFILIATE STAFF MEMBERS
ADVOCACY HABITAT NC COORDINATES AFFILIATE INVOLVEMENT IN NON-PARTISAN, NON-LOBBYING, ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES. WE PROMOTE ACTIONS AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL TO INCREASE FUNDS FOR HABITATS HOME CONSTRUCTION AND INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, AS WELL AS RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT AFFORDABLE HOUSING ISSUES AND ADVOCACY THROUGH EDUCATION AND TRAINING AROUND THE STATE. AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL, WE WORK WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL ON NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ISSUES OF CONCERN WITH REGARD TO SUBSTANDARD HOUSING, FUNDING, AND ACCESS TO HOUSING FOR LOWER INCOME PEOPLE
