MEDIA FELLOW SCHOLARSHIPS (SPRING/FALL) IN LIEU OF SPENDING MONEY ON THE ANNUAL NETWORK RECEPTION THAT WAS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, 52 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED FOR $1,500 EACH. SCHOLARSHIPS WERE GIVEN UPON A REVIEW PROCESS BASED ON MERIT AND FINANCIAL NEED.
MEDIA CASE COMPETITION 60 UNDERGRADUATES PARTICIPATED IN THE 2021 CASE COMPETITION FROM SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. 16 FINALISTS WERE CHOSEN TO COMPETE BY ZOOM, DUE TO THE COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, JUDGED BY A PLANEL OF MEDIA PROFESSIONALS. THE WINNERS OF THE COMPETITION FROM IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY EARNED $5,000 AND THE RUNNERS UP FROM PENN STATE/ITHACA COLLEGE WON $3,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS. IN ADDITION, 12 REMAINING STUDENTS WERE GIVEN $500 WHO DID NOT PLACE IN THE COMPETITION. ALSO, A SPECIAL MEMORIAL AWARD OF $2,000 WAS GIVEN TO TWO STUDENTS IN MEMORY OF A DECEASED FORMER WMSF WINNER.
MEDIA SCHOLARS ADVERTISING/OUTREACH DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS ON THE ANNUAL NETWORKING RECEPTION AND TRAVEL, MONEY WAS REDIRECTED TO AN ADVERTISING/OUTREACH CAMPAIGN TO REACH MORE STUDENTS MAJORING IN PUBLIC POLICY IN NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
