BEAUTIFICATION: THE FOUNDATION HAS A MULTI-PHASE PLAN TO IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE OF COMMUNITY'S ENTRANCES, INTERSECTIONS, AND COMMON AREAS. THIS YEAR, THE FOUNDATION COMPLETELY MADE OVER THE APPEARANCE OF AN AREA BRIDGE LOCATED ON EASTOVER DRIVE. THE DESIGN INCLUDED REMOVING THE OLD WOODEN RAILINGS AND POSTS AND REPLACING THEM WITH DECORATIVE IRON RAILINGS SIMILAR TO THOSE INSTALLED ON TWO OTHER BRIDGES IN PREVIOUS YEARS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO ADDED THE SIGNATURE ANTIQUE BRICK COLUMNS TO THE BRIDGE CORNERS WITH THE EASTOVER STONE PLAQUES. LIGHTING, DECORATIVE SIGNAGE AND EXTENSIVE LANDSCAPING WERE ALSO INSTALLED.THE FOUNDATION INSTALLED MORE EXTENSIVE LANDSCAPING AT THE LOCATION OF THE FIRST BRIDGE (TWIN LAKES CIRCLE) THAT WAS IMPROVED IN 2018. THE FOUNDATION ALSO REMOVED OVER-GROWN TREES AND SHRUBBERY, AND INSTALLED IRRIGATION, STACKED STONE AND PLANT MATERIAL.IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION HAS AN ONGOING PARTNERSHIP WITH CASEY ELEMENTARY, A LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL, TO SUPPORT THEIR PROGRAMS AND OTHER NEEDS. LANDSCAPING WAS INTALLED ALONG THE SCHOOL'S FENCE LINE TO IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE OF THE METAL CHAIN FENCE.
SAFETY & COMMUNITY OUTREACH:SAFE, HEALTHY SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITIES ARE ONES IN WHICH NEIGHBORS KNOW EACH OTHER AND LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER. THE FOUNDATION BELIEVES IN STRENGTHENING THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE TO CONNECT WITH ONE ANOTHER. THE FOUNDATION ALSO BELIEVES THAT PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, COUNTY AND CITY STAFF ARE A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF MAINTAINING A GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE COMMUNITY. WHILE THE ANNUAL COMMUNITY EVENTS DURING 2020 OR DURING THE SPRING OF 2021 WERE NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO COVID 19, THE FOUNDATION DID WORK CLOSELY WITH HINDS COUNTY SUPERVISORS TO REPAVE STREETS THAT WERE IN VERY POOR CONDITION AND POSING A SAFETY HAZARD TO DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTED LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BY PROVIDING BOXES OF DISPOSABLE GLOVES AND BOTTLES OF HAND SANITIZER. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION SPENT MANY HOURS WORKING ON IMPROVEMENTS THAT WOULD SLOW AND REDUCE TRAFFIC. THE FOUNDATION WAS SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL DURING THIS TIME.
COMMUNICATION:VITAL TO THE SUCCESS OF ANY ORGANIZATION IS THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY. IN CONSIDERATION OF THE FACT THAT THE COMMUNITY HAS NEW MEMBERS THAT ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE FOUNDATION'S WORK, HISTORY AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS, THE FOUNDATION PUBLISHED AN ANNUAL COLOR REPORT THAT EXPLAINS THE MISSION, PAST PROJECTS, PROSPECTIVE PROJECTS, AND EXPENSES OVER THE FIRST EIGHT YEARS OF OPERATIONS. THE COMMUNICATION PIECE ILLUSTRATES HOW THE FOUNDATION'S FOUR FOCUS AREAS- SAFETY, COMMUNICATION, BEAUTIFICATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH - FIT INTO EVERYTHING THE FOUNDATION DOES. IT INCLUDES UPDATED RENDERINGS, PHOTOGRAPHS AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE NUMEROUS UNDERTAKINGS AND ABOUT FUTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS THE FOUNDATION WOULD LIKE TO PURSUE.
