THE MISSION OF THE COUNCIL OF AMERICAN JEWISH MUSEUMS IS TO STRENGTHEN, POSITION, AND CHAMPION AMERICA'S JEWISH MUSEUMS AS INVALUABLE PUBLIC AND JEWISH RESOURCES. ITS VISION IS A SOCIETY MADE MORE VIBRANT, INCLUSIVE, JUST, RESILIENT, AND UNDERSTANDING BY JEWISH MUSEUMS AND THEIR ALLIES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

IN MAY OF 2024, THE COUNCIL OF AMERICAN JEWISH MUSEUMS HELD ITS ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON, DC, ON THE THEME OF "MUSEUMS AND DEMOCRACY: ELEVATING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT". BUILDING ON SEVERAL YEARS OF WORK WITH ITS MEMBERSHIP ON FOSTERING HEALTHY DIALOG AND WELCOMING DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES, THE CONFERENCE WAS A LANDMARK PROGRAM IN THE MUSEUM FIELD AND IN JEWISH CULTURE. THE CONFERENCE WAS ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 200 COLLEAGUES IN PERSON, ENGAGED IN MULTI-DIRECTIONAL CONVERSATIONS AROUND ISSUES SHARED BY MANY DIFFERENT JEWISH MUSEUMS AROUND THE COUNTRY.


WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH IMLS AS PART OF THE NATIONAL STRATEGY TO COUNTER ANTISEMITISM, THE COUNCIL OF AMERICAN JEWISH MUSEUMS CO-HOSTED A SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON, DC IN MARCH 2024 ENTITLED "MUSEUMS RESPOND: STRATEGIES FOR COUNTERING ANTISEMITISM AND HATE." THE SUMMIT FEATURED LEAD VOICES WORKING WITH CULTURALLY SPECIFIC MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES, AND THE ARTS, AND THEIR METHODS FOR BUILDING UNDERSTANDINGS ACROSS COMMUNITIES.
