Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
GLOBAL EDUCATION INITIATIVE - IN 2017, THE BOARD AUTHORIZED INVOLVEMENT AND CONSULTATION WITH A NONPROFIT, CALPAK EDUCATION SERVICES, WHICH IS COMMITTED TO SPONSORING/ADOPTING SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE EDUCATION FOR GIRLS AND WOMEN IN PAKISTAN. TO THIS END, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SERVES ON THEIR BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND CONSERVATIVE FUNDS HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED TO SUPPORT TRAVEL. SERVICE IS PROVIDED GRATIS. IN 2021, OUR SPONSORSHIP HELPED TO PROVIDE AN EDUCATION FOR OVER 700 YOUNG BOYS AND GIRLS IN PAKISTAN AND 60 FIVE-YEAR OLDS AT A GIRLS' SCHOOL IN AFGHANISTAN. WE PROVIDED FUNDS TO EXPAND THE THREE THARPARKER (PAKISTAN) SCHOOLS BY CONSTRUCTING A CLASSROOM AND A COMPUTER LAB AT EACH OF THE THREE SCHOOLS, THEREBY ALLOWING TWO AND THREE TIMES AS MANY CHILDREN TO ATTEND SCHOOL. LIFE IN THE THARPARKER REGION OF PAKISTAN IS HARD: THE CHILDREN FETCH WATER ON FOOT FROM A POLLUTED LAKE OVER TWO MILES AWAY. FETCHING WATER IS A CRITICAL ACTIVITY THAT ROBS HOURS OUT OF THE DAY, THEREBY PREVENTING THE CHILDREN FROM ATTENDING SCHOOL. WE CONSTRUCTED SOLAR WELLS LOCATED IN THE VILLAGES NEAR THE SCHOOLS TO ALLOW THE CHILDREN THE FREEDOM TO ATTEND SCHOOL AND TO PROVIDE POTABLE WATER DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. WE CONSTRUCTED BATHROOMS NEAR THE SCHOOLS, THEREBY ALLOWING THE CHILDREN TO STAY AT SCHOOL VS GOING TO THE ONLY TOILET LOCATED MORE THAN FIFTEEN MINUTES AWAY. THE BOARD HAS COMMITTED TO CONTINUE FUNDING THESE PROGRAMS IN PAKISTAN (AND OTHERS IN THAT REGION OF THE WORLD) VIA ITS GLOBAL EDUCATION INITIATIVE.
INCUBATING THE HECHT TRAUMA INSTITUTE - THE BOARD HAS COMMITTED TO CONTINUE THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE TRAUMA INSTITUTE, AND WILL INCUBATE THE PROJECT THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF 2022.
GLOBAL INTERFAITH INITIATIVE AND HARDSHIP AND HOMELESS INITIATIVEWE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE CASH CONTRIBUTIONS TO INCLUDE FULL SPONSORSHIP OF THE PASSOVER SEDER AND SIMCHA TORAH CELEBRATION AT THE MEN'S PRISON IN CHINO; SEVERAL INTERFAITH IFTARS FOR RAMADAN; FOOD BAGS DISTRIBUTED TO THE NEEDY BY A MUSLIM WOMEN'S ORGANIZATION; FOOD AND MEDICAL CARE FOR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS; SPONSORSHIP OF A HANNUKAH PROGRAM WITH AN OUTREACH TO ELDERLY SHUT-INS; A HOMELESS BREAKFAST-IN-THE-PARK PROGRAM OF A BIBLE CHURCH IN LONG BEACH; THE FOOD PROGRAMS OF A PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN LONG BEACH; A FEW CHABAD PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE FOOD AND SUPPLIES FOR ELDERLY OR NEEDY JEWISH FAMILIES. (CONTINUE TO SCH O)DUE TO COVID-19 AND THE ECONOMIC STRESSORS FACING FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS IN THE UNITED STATES, WE INCREASED OUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO DIRECT-SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS (E.G., FOOD BAGS FOR THE HOMELESS OR NEEDY) AND WE INCREASED OUR DIRECT SUPPORT TO DESPERATE INDIVIDUALS. AS IN YEARS PAST, WE "ADOPTED" FAMILIES IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP THEM FINANCIALLY AFLOAT (RENT ASSISTANCE TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS, FOOD BAGS, ETC).: A YOUNG IMMIGRANT COUPLE; A SINGLE MOTHER WITH TWO CHILDREN UNDER FOUR YEARS OF AGE; BURIAL COSTS FOR A HISPANIC MAN WHO DIED FROM COVID BECAUSE HE COULD NOT AFFORD TO SHELTER-IN-PLACE; AND MANY PEOPLE RECEIVED FOOD BAGS VIA FOOD BANKS, FOOD KITCHENS, ETC.
