GREEN OPPORTUNITIES ("GO") RAN AND COMPLETED 3 KITCHEN READY TRAINING PROGRAMS (1 FIRST TIER, 2 2ND TIER); HELPED 32 PEOPLE IN ASHEVILLE CITY AND ADDITIONAL 10 PEOPLE OUTSIDE LIMITS COMPLETE JOB TRAINING OR BE PLACED IN A JOB. CONSTRUCTION TRAINING STUDENTS COMPLETED FRAMING FOR LOW INCOME HOUSING. FIVE STUDENTS COMPLETED THEIR GED. TWO STUDENTS EARNED THEIR OSHA CERTIFICATION, ONE STUDENT WAS ASSISTED WITH JOINING A CNA CLASS STAFF AND STUDENTS COMPLETED FREE REPAIRS ON 10 HOMES OWNED BY FAMILIES WHO ARE LOW INCOME. WHEN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC STARTED, THE GO SOUTHSIDE KITCHEN BEGAN SERVING MEALS TO AT RISK RESIDENTS OF THE PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY, HACA. OVER 25,000 MEALS WERE SERVED BETWEEN MARCH AND JUNE 2020. OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, GO EMPLOYED GO CONNECTS YOUTH AND ADULTS FROM LOW-WEALTH NEIGHBORHOODS TO SUSTAINED EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT SUPPORT AND IMPROVE COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH. TRAINING AND PLACEMENT: THE CORE GOAL OF OUR TRAININGS IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE HANDS ON SKILLS AND PORTABLE TECHNICAL CREDENTIALS NECESSARY TO FIND AND RETAIN EMPLOYMENT. WE FOCUS ON WELL PAYING, SUSTAINED EMPLOYMENT IN JOBS THAT INCREASE COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH. OUR TARGETED CURRICULUM PREPARES RESIDENTS FOR GROWING INDUSTRIES LIKE GREEN CONSTRUCTION, URBAN AGRICULTURE, SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPING, CULINARY ARTS AND BUILDING SCIENCE AND WEATHERIZATION.
