LUMINARIA CONTEMPORARY ARTS FESTIVAL:HELD EVERY YEAR IN SAN ANTONIO SINCE 2008, THE 2021 LUMINARIA CONTEMPORARY ARTS FESTIVAL WAS HELD ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2021, AT HEMISFAIR AND CONVENTION CENTRER IN DOWNTOWN SAN ANTONIO. THIS FESTIVAL IS THE ONLY CONTEMPORARY ARTS FESTIVAL OF ITS KIND IN SOUTH TEXAS. THIS ANNUAL ARTS SHOWCASE IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. IT HIGHLIGHTS THE WORK OF OVER 45 FEATURED ARTISTS COMPRISING OVER 200 INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS FROM SAN ANTONIO AND BEYOND. THE NIGHTTIME FESTIVAL FEATURES VISUAL ARTS, DANCE, MUSIC, THEATRE, PERFORMANCE, POETRY, LIGHT DISPLAYS, AND MORE. WELCOMING NEARLY 30,000 ANNUAL ATTENDEES, LUMINARIA SPOTLIGHTS THE ARTS AS AN IMPORTANT PART OF CITY LIFE.
LUMINARIA ARTIST FOUNDATION GRANT PROGRAMSIN 2021, THE LUMINARIA ARTIST FOUNDATION GRANT AWARDED INDIVIDUAL GRANTS TO SAN ANTONIO RESIDENT ARTISTS TO CREATE AND SHOWCASE NEW, ORIGINAL ARTWORKS AND FOR CREATIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. THREE ARTISTS RECEIVED $10,000 AND FOUR ARTISTS RECEIVED $6,000 FOR NEW ORIGINAL WORK TO BE SHOWCASED TO THE PUBLIC IN SAN ANTONIO. TOTAL AWARDED WAS $54,000. WITH THE ONSET OF THE COVID PANDEMIC, LUMINARIA CREATED THE WORKING ARTIST FUND, A MICRO-GRANT OF UP TO $550 TO ARTISTS FOR LOSSES DUE TO THE HEALTH CRISIS AND FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES. IN 2021, THE WORKING ARTIST FUND AWARDED $15,358 TO 36 ARTISTS.
