Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE NATIONAL COMMUNITY STABILIZATION TRUST (NCST) STRENGTHENS COMMUNITIES BY FACILITATING THE REDEVELOPMENT AND REUSE OF VACANT, SINGLE-FAMILY (1-4 UNIT) HOMES. THIS WORK HAS A DOUBLE BOTTOM LINE: IT PREVENTS NEIGHBORHOOD BLIGHT WHILE INCREASING THE SUPPLY OF HIGH-QUALITY PROPERTIES AVAILABLE FOR AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP OR RESPONSIBLE RENTAL.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
NCST WAS FOUNDED IN 2008 IN RESPONSE TO THE FORECLOSURE CRISIS THAT RESULTED IN ALMOST 10 MILLION FORECLOSURES. BY PROVIDING A BRIDGE BETWEEN LENDERS WITH REO INVENTORY AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS DESIRING TO REHAB THEM FOR PRODUCTIVE REUSE, REOMATCH ENABLED SIGNIFICANT NEIGHBORHOOD STABILIZATION ACTIVITY IN MARKETS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES AND HELPED BUILD CAPACITY IN THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY. IN ITS FIRST 11 YEARS OF OPERATION, NCST WORKED WITH MORE THAN 1,000 LOCAL PARTNERS TO PUT 27,000 SINGLE FAMILY HOMES BACK TO WORK AS AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP OR RESPONSIBLE RENTAL. IN MORE RECENT YEARS, NCST ALSO HAS BUILT A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE RESEARCH AND POLICY DEVELOPMENT OPERATION BY RECRUITING SENIOR POLICY EXPERTS TO ITS TEAM. THIS TEAM KNOWS HOW TO TRANSLATE NCST'S EXPERIENCE IN REAL ESTATE - SUPPORTED BY A LARGE PROPRIETARY DATASET ON ACQUISITION AND REHAB - INTO MEANINGFUL AND REALISTIC POLICY OBJECTIVES.
