Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
TEACHER TRAINING - UNTIL 2016 WAZA HAD TRAINED ABOUT 240 TEACHERS EACH YEAR, IN TWO LOCATIONS, KINSEVERE (A RURAL AREA) AND LUBUMBASHI (A CITY). AT KINSEVERE, WE PARTNER WITH MMG/KINSEVERE MINING COMPANY, WHERE TEACHERS ATTEND THREE WORKSHOPS. THESE ARE AT THE KINSEVERE PRIMARY, KIFITA PRIMARY, AND MUOBE SECONDARY SCHOOLS. IN LUMBUMBASHI, THE TRAINING WAS CONDUCTED AT THE MYRT SCHOOL. THERE, AT LEAST 150 TEACHERS, ATTENDED FIVE DAYS OF TRAINING. DURING THE PAST SIX SUMMERS (2016-2021) WE WERE NOT ABLE TO CONDUCT TRAINING IN LUMBUMBASHI DUE TO THE TENSE POLICITAL SITUATION SURROUNDING THE NATIONAL ELECTIONS AT DRC. HOWEVER, WE DO CONTINUE TO MEET WITH VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS TO LAY THE GROUNDWORK FOR FUTURE TRAINING SESSIONS. VISION SCREENING - DURING 2016 AND 2017 WE WERE ABLE TO CONDUCT LIMITED VERSION SCREENING EXAMINATIONS THAT DID NOT NECESSITATE GATHERINGS OF LARGE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE. VISION SCREENING IS CRITICAL TO OUR OVERALL GOAL OF RISING THE EDUCATION LEVEL OF THE YOUTH IN THE DRC. WE HAVE A LARGE NUMBER OF CORRECTING GLASSES IN INVENTORY, AND EXPECT SCREENING AND EYE GLASS DISTRIBUTION TO RE-START WHEN RESTRICTIONS ON LARGE GATHERINGS ARE LIFTED. SCHOLARSHIPS - WAZA ALLIANCE HAS RENEWED OUR COMMITTMENT TO OUR 28 PRIMARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS. SEVERAL STUDENTS HAVE GRADUATED IN THE LAST THREE YEARS. WE HAVE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO TWO GRADUATES EACH YEAR TO EASE THEIR TRANSITION TO UNIVERSITY LIFE. NOTE - THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN THE DRC, WHILE IMPROVING, HAS NOT STABILIZED TO THE POINT WHERE WAZA BELIEVES IT IS ADVISABLE TO CONDUCT TEACHER TRAINING IN LUBUMBASHI. WE ARE PLANNING TO VISIT LUBUMBASHI, WHATEVER THE SITUATION, TO PLAN AND PROMOTE OUR EDUCATIONAL GOALS WITH TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, STUDENTS, GOVERNMENT MINISTERS AND OTHER NGO'S. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES - SINCE FY 2015, WE HAVE CONTRACTED WITH MMG/KINSEVERE MINING TO SUPERVISE SCHOLARSHOPS, ASSESS THE PROGRAM OF THE SCHOLARS AND PLAN THE TRANSFER OF THESE SCHOOLS TO THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT. IN ADDITION MMG/ KINSEVERE HAS PROVIDED FUNDS TO ESTABLISH A LIBRARY FOR THE STUDENT'S USE. GRANTS AND OTHER SIMILAR AMOUNTS PAID. THESE FUNDS WERE PAID DIRECTLY TO SCHOOLS, FOR TUITION, FEES AND SUPPLIES FOR THE SCHOLARS NOTED ABOVE.
