THE ORGANIZATION USES ALPHABETIC PHONICS, A RESEARCH-BASED, MULTISENSORY STRUCTURED LANGUAGE PROGRAM TO TEACH LITERACY SKILLS TO STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO TAKE 2-3 YEARS TO COMPLETE. STUDENTS ATTEND CLASS FOR 3 ONE-HOUR SESSIONS PER WEEK. IT IS PRIMARILY AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM. FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR, 23 STUDENTS WERE ENROLLED IN CLASSES. 2 STUDENTS GRADUATED FROME THE PROGRAM IN JUNE, 2020. GRADE EQUIVALENTS FOR ONE STUDENT HAD AN INCREASE OF 7 GRADE LEVELS IN WORD ATTACK SKILLS AND 3.4 GRADE LEVEL INCREASE IN PASSAGE COMPREHENSION SKILLS. GRADE EQUIVALENTS FOR THE OTHER STUDENT WAS 14 LEVELS IN WORD ATTACK SKILLS AND 5.2 LEVELS IN PASSAGE COMPRHENSION SKILLS. BY COMPARISON, STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA IN A TRADITIONAL SCHOOL PROGRAM GAIN LESS THAN ONE YEAR IN READING SKILLS OVER THE ACADEMIC YEAR.STUDENTS DEMONSTRATED A POSITIVE CHANGE IN SELF-CONFIDENCE AND CLASS PARTICIPATION IN THEIR REGULAR SCHOOL CLASSROOMS.
