Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
WE PROVIDE FREE SERVICES, SUPPLIES, INFORMATION AND SUPPORT TO HONOR PEOPLE'S LOVE FOR THEIR PETS. WE PROACTIVELY REACH OUT TO THE COMMUNITY TO BUILD TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS WITH FAMILIES AND MAKE CONNECTIONS TO KEEP PETS HEALTHY AND HAPPY. WE BELIEVE A LACK OF FINANCIAL MEANS DOES NOT EQUATE TO A LACK OF LOVE FOR A PET, AND WE SEEK TO SPREAD THIS PRINCIPLE THROUGH A PHILOSOPHY OF UNDERSTANDING AND NON-JUDGEMENT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
OUTREACH & WELLNESS PROGRAMWE PROVIDED VETERINARY APPOINTMENTS FOR 840 PETS IN 2021. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING VETERINARY CARE, WE PROVIDED DOG FOOD, INDOOR CRATES, COLLARS & LEASHES, FLEA & TICK MEDICINE AND OTHER SUPPLIES TO OVER 725 FAMILIES. WE ALSO ASSISTED WITH GROOMING FEES FOR 23 DOGS. WE DELIVER OUR OUTREACH & WELLNESS SERVICES TO THE AREAS OF OUR COMMUNITY WHERE PET OWNERS HAVE LEAST ACCESS TO THE RESOURCES THEY NEED FOR THEIR PETS AND WHERE POVERTY RATES ARE THE HIGHEST. THROUGH OUTREACH WE VISIT PET OWNERS IN THEIR HOMES BUILDING TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS THAT ALLOW US TO WORK WITH PET OWNERS TO ACCESS THE CARE AND SUPPLIES THEY NEED FOR THEIR PETS.
SPAY & NUETER PROGRAMIN 2021, WE PROVIDED SPAY/NEUTER AND VACCINATIONS TO 187 PETS. WE TAKE A TARGETED APPROACH TO SPAY/NEUTER FOCUSING OUR EFFORTS TO UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES WHERE PETS HAVE UNWANTED LITTERS AND WHERE MOST PETS WOULD NEVER OTHERWISE BE ALTERED. WE PROVIDED SPAY OR NEUTER TO UNALTERED PETS WE ASSISTED THROUGH OUR FENCE PROGRAM, SHELTER INTERVENTION PROGRAM, AND OUTREACH & WELLNESS PROGRAM. WE PROVIDE FREE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE SPAY/NEUTER APPOINTMENT FOR ALMOST ALL OF THE PETS.
SHELTER INTERVENTION PROGRAMTHROUGH OUR SHELTER INTERVENTION PROGRAM WE PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES FACING HOUSING INSECURITIES, HEALTH PROBLEMS, OR FINANCIAL PROBLEMS TO HELP THEM KEEP THEIR PETS AS MEMBERS OF THEIR FAMILIES. WE COVERED THE COSTS OF BOARDING FEES FOR 10 PETS WHILE THEIR FAMILIES WERE DISPLACED FROM THEIR APARTMENTS DUE TO HIGH LEVELS OF CARBON MONOXIDE. WE COVERED THE COSTS OF BOARDING FOR 10 PETS WHILE THEIR OWNERS WERE IN THE HOSPITAL. WE PAID PET FEES TO LANDLORDS FOR 12 FAMILIES SO THEY COULD KEEP THEIR PETS WITH THEM AS THEY MOVED TO RENTAL HOMES OR APARTMENTS. WE COVERED THE COST OF BITE QUARANTINE FEES AND RETURN-TO-OWNER FEES AT OUR LOCAL SHELTER, APS OF DURHAM, FOR 43 OWNED PETS SO THEY COULD BE REUNITED WITH THEIR FAMILIES.
FENCE PROGRAMTHROUGH OUR FENCE PROGRAM WE BUILT FENCES IN 2020 FOR 24 DOGS. EACH FENCE PROVIDED ABOUT 600 SQUARE FEET OF SPACE FOR THE DOG WHO RECEIVED IT AND WAS BUILT USING WELDED WIRE AND T-POSTS. OUR VOLUNTEERS SUPPLIED THE LABOR TO BUILD THE FENCES. THE FENCES PROVIDED AN EFFECTIVE BARRRIER FOR THE DOGS AND GAVE FAMILIES A PLACE TO INTERACT POSITIVELY WITH THEIR PETS. WE PROVIDED BALES OF WHEAT STRAW TO EACH DOG DURING THE WINTER MONTHS TO KEEP THE INSIDE OF THE DOG HOUSES WARM AND DRY. WE PROVIDED TARPS IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER TO THOSE DOGS WHOSE FENCES HAD NO NATURAL SHADE.
