VC COOL IS A CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION GROUP DEDICATED TO ENGAGING THE PEOPLE OF VENTURA TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GASSES. WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE TOOLS AND EXPERTISE FOR LIFESTYLE CHANGE, SUPPORT A LOCALIZED GREEN ECONOMY, INFLUENCE POLICY, AND FOSTER A GRASS-ROOTS COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORTS SUSTAINABLE LIVING.

Part 3 - Line 4a

HUB. WE RUN A DO-IT-YOURSELF BIKE REPAIR SHOP TO FACILITATE THE NEIGHBORHOOD IN BIKE MAINTENANCE. WE ARE BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH TEACHING CHILDREN TO REPAIR BIKES AS WELL AS REPAIRING BIKES FOR OTHERS. WE HAVE A WORK TO OWN BIKE PROGRAM FOR THOSE THAT CAN'T AFFORD ONE. WE EDUCATE THE PUBLIC IN BIKE SAFETY, GIVE AWAY HELMETS AND LIGHTS. WE WORK WITH THE CITY AND COUNTY TO IMPROVE THE STREETS FOR CYCLISTS AS WELL AS PEDESTRIANS.


EDUCATION AND OUTREACH. WE HAVE WORKED AT CITY SPONSORED EVENTS TO PROVIDE VALET PARKING FOR BIKES TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO RIDE TO THE EVENTS RATHER THAN TAKING CARS. WE HAVE A PROGRAM FOR KIDS TO DO PUBLIC SERVICE PROJECTS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THEIR SCHOOLS. WE HELP THE HOMELESS GET AND MAINTAIN THEIR BIKES SO THEY HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO MAKE LIVING EASIER.
